(It's only my opinion, you are free to feel different about it.)
I'm currently rewatching and reviewing the 1981 series and I've just started the Season 3, while I also saw the first episodes from the new Season 3, and I've been comparing them for the past few days and all I can say is that the Smurfs went downhill. It is losing the charm of the Smurfs the old series managed to capture.
To be honest, I really don't like the new season. Firstly I hate the new characters. Rowena is annoying and Dwayne, as I've seen so far, has no real personality other than just being a generic spoiled kid. As for Bubble and Firefly, they shouldn't have abilities. It ruins the Smurfs, I'm sorry.
It has so much potential as it introduces the girls village, but we're already seen one third of this season and only 30 seconds of the girls' village. Instead, it focuses mostly on badly personalized characters and is not written that well.
Gargamel has become a joke, as the Smurfs such as Hefty or Storm or even Lily easily and fearlessly pick on him like he was not supposed to be the biggest threat to the Smurfs. (There is also a scene from "His Own Worst Enemy" where they beat him with dancing but it's so horrible I seriously don't want to discuss it.) Azrael has just disappeared, his screentime and importance was reduced too much and overshadowed by the new kids, even though he's supposed to be the second most important antagonist, who always comes alongside Gargamel.
It's hard to write original plotlines, as the 1980s series has already explored a lot of ideas, so we are getting episodes such as "The Great Smurfs Games", which is a modernized version of "The Smurfic Games", or "Dragon Pet" having the idea of "Master Scruple". They also seem to remake their own ideas, like "The Tour" (horribly unoriginal title by the way), which seems to be exactly like "Unsmurfable Smile".
The action hasn't yet moved out of the Smurf Forest (except for the poor scene in the girls' village) and the lack of location diversity is a bit frustrating to me, like there's nothing outside the forest, even mountains you can see in some shots are just there.
A lot of time in the episodes is filled with pointless dancing and running around, or overly long fight and conversation scenes. Most episodes with great potential such as "Dragon Pet" were made really badly and for me felt hard to watch, even if they include some good jokes. I was really disappointed after I saw the execution of not that bad main ideas.
The episodes also don't use enough ccharacters in my opinion, that's why I very much dislike those like "What a Doll". This is also somehow connected to the story quality, as the focus is on a constantly on a small amount of characters and there's no room for supporting roles.
Personally, I really only enjoyed "The Ultimate Prank" (though it's very unllikely for Papa to cooperate in the whole thing), "The Tree of Knowledge" or whatever they'll call it in English (because it's based on the idea of everyone seeking for Papa's advice), "Reaching for the Stars" (I'm not sure why, I find it wholesome), and I'm also fine with "Magic Meltdown".
It might seem like I hate the girls (althogh I think they ruined the original idea of the Smurfs with their introduction, I still find them interesting), but most of their episodes are poor and not very entertaining, and we don't have enough Smurf girls, so it's also a diversity problem.
I'm going to review all the episodes individually some time, but I already mentioned that I'm currently doing the 1980s Season 3, so probably I won't reach this season in a few months.
That smurfs it.

Title: Trapped Smurfette
Summary:
Even though Smurfette was created by the evil wizard, Gargamel, she's very sweet and cares about the other Smurfs. However, someone traps her in her mushroom by gluing the door and all the windows shut.
1. Papa Smurf announces that the bridge needs to be rebuilt to his entire village in the episode, while a nameless Smurf tells Grouchy this in the book.
2. Papa Smurf interacts with other Smurfs in between "Patient 0's" first attempt at a nap in the episode, while he does not in the book.
3. The first infected Purple Smurf is Lazy in the episode, while it was confirmed via The Smurfs and the Magic Egg that it was Grouchy in the comic.
(Side note: despite what the wiki says, Grouchy DOES appear in the episode. In fact, he makes two appearances. The first is when Papa is announcing his first attempt at a cure. He's hard to spot, but he's the one crossing his arms. His second appearance is when he is bitten by Hefty during the Purple Smurf army attack.)
4. Due to concerns over racism, the Black Smurfs were changed to purple.
5. The Purple Fly is consistently small in the comic, but his size varies in the episode.
6. The infected Smurfs' eyes are red in the book, but are black in the episode.
7. I may be wrong on this one, but in the book, the first cure is a pill, while it is a spray in the episode.
8. A nameless Smurf turns the third Purple Smurf in to the rest of the group in the book, but it is Brainy in the episode.
9. When the Smurf trio are tasked by Papa Smurf to capture a Purple Smurf to test out his second cure, we actually see how they caught one in the book, but not in the episode.
10. Papa Smurf tries three cures in the book, while he only tries two in the episode.
11. The ointment isn't wiped off the Purple Smurf's face in the episode. Instead, it simply slides off.
12. When Papa announces his plan to capture the Purple Fly, 16 Smurfs are infected by this point in the comic, while it is 18 in the episode. Also, the location where he announces this plan is different; in the comic, he's still in the village, while he and the remaining Smurfs are in the forest in the episode.
13. There is no running joke about a Smurf catching a butterfly in the episode. However, possibly as a reference to this, the episode has Vanity and Smurfette catching bees.
14. The Purple Fly tries to escape in the episode, but not in the comic.
15. The Smurfs do not venture into the forest to test out the tuberose pollen in the episode. Because of this, one more Smurf does not get infected before the battle.
16. The Fake Blue is unnamed in the book, but is notably Hefty in the episode.
17. Smurfette does not appear in the comic since she was not introduced yet.
18. There is a countdown to how many Smurfs are left in the book, but not the episode.
19. While the Fake Blue does cause Papa Smurf's house to be set on fire in both versions, how he does it is different. In the book, he throws a stool which knocks down a candle. In the episode, he crashes into what was keeping the candle standing. Also, Papa Smurf fights back in the book, but not the episode.
20. The ending is slightly different. In the episode, it simply ends with Jokey cracking a joke. In the book, not only does he not do this, but the Smurfs also celebrate their victory by throwing a party.

Accessible from France (or through VPN), there are two new trailers on the TF1+ website with clips from various episodes! The first focuses on Voltaire (named Blizzard in the French dub), the second on Rowena and Dwayne (named Broc in the French dub).
I noticed when the videos were using clips that didn't have active dialogue, they would use clips from the English dub (most obviously with Gargamel, as the dialogue is spoken by the French voice actor, but when it's just clips of him screaming or huffing it's the English voice actor).
(SLIGHT SPOILERS): Interesting to note is that not only do we get to see what Voltaire's cave will look like, but we also see that Dwayne and Rowena are playing in a new room inside of what seems like Gargamel's hovel.

A snippet of the upcoming episode, which will be the first appearance of SmurfBubble! No sighting of SmurfFirefly yet, though, at least from this clip. Also, the shots where there's a bunch of duplicated Begonias... 😅
According to the description, this episode will premiere on Monday, September 2nd instead of Tuesday, September 3rd. With the date also changed on TV Insider, it looks like a couple of the episodes got shifted up by a day.

Includes high-res screenshots, character profiles, concept art, and an English trailer for Season 3! Plus, a little bit more info about production on the shows in development and the movie! So cool!!!
Found these on TV Insider and TV Passport respectively, two separate listings for an episode premiering September 23rd. It is unclear what country/channel it will air on or where they found a listing this far into the future for it, but it seems legitimate.

(Also, if anyone has access to the English episodes that have aired in Australia, I would appreciate if they could be uploaded somewhere for us non-Australians please! It looks like it will be a while before all of those episodes come out in English in other regions.)
I was planning to do this for a long time now, and with the Season 3 of the new series coming up that will change a lot and a lot of different perspectives from Smurfs fans I think it's the right time to share my thoughts on some of the most controversial topics about the Smurfs.
Greedy in Smurfs (1981 TV Series)
I get really upset by the comments about 1980s Greedy and I think it's the perfect topic to begin with. Most people think that this version ofGreedy was a mix between comic Greedy and Chef, but this is absosmurfly incorrect. By the airing of the 1981 series there was only about 10 different comics released by Peyo and not even one of them featured Chef Smurf. Even more, there were occasions where the Smurfs refered to Greedy as the village cook in the comics; most notable of them is in the Smurf Stories, one-page gag collection (which was unfortunately never translated to English). There the Smurfs litterally say that they'll ask Greedy to bake them a cake, which is a proof that Greedy was supposed to be the Smurfs' cook before Chef was even created.
A Smurf with a cooking hat however does appear in The Fake Smurf story, but is never named, making it possible to be just Greedy with a cooking hat.
The whole Greedy the cook thing was then retconned in the later comics and the new series with the introduction of Chef and even Baker Smurf, so the confusion is completely understandable.
Other combined characters in the Smurfs (1981 TV Series)
I'll try to be quick here because I've talked about Greedy and Chef so long. Clumsy again like Greedy wasn't really a mix of characters at the beginning, but unlike Greedy Clumsy was initially a replacement for Dopey. Clumsy never appeared before 1980s series and the creators probably thought of giving Dopey's traits to a character with more potential, and everyone must admit it turned out great. And then after the series, they made two characters out of it
On the other hand, I didn't like the only "real" combination of characters in that series, that is Painter and Sculptor. Painter wasn't bad in the 1980s series, I just really hated that they gave him Sculptor's traits, because unlike Chef and Clumsy, Sculptor was confirmed to exist in the early comics.
I really hope they utilize them both more in later seasons of the new series.
Brainy in Smurfs (1981 TV Series)
This one is going to get me a lot of hate, but I really think Brainy wasn't that unbearable in the 1980s. I get the hate for it, he was truly annoying in later seasons, but I think people overreact with it. Especially in the first few seasons, he was completely bearable and even though they ruined him later on, they had some good ideas like him writing his own books. He was bad, but don't go too far with the Brainy hate.
Smurfs (2021 TV Series) is NOT a continuation of the comics
Another controversial one, but I just hate it when people talk aboutthis being the same universe. Yes, the Smurfs have their mischevious personalities back, yes, Brainy is not an egoist, yes, Clumsy, Dopey, Greedy, and Chef are separate characters, but no, it's not the same universe. For example, Bigmouth lives in the old tower, which was never a thing in the comics, or Gargamel's hovel being located on a cliff, or Clumsy and Dopey being firemen. And the worst of them all is making Hefty an egoist and the only Smurf attracted to Smurfette, who for some reason randomly turns into an action girl. I've never seen that in the comics. I don't think the new series are bad, they're just not the same as the comics.
The new series were based off the recent comics and the old series were based off the Peyo's comic stories, but neither of them is the continuation of the comics.
Hate me all you want, but I think I made some completely reasonable points.

These episodes are only available to watch on Australian Prime Video (and potentially AU Paramount Plus), but this listing on Apple TV has thumbnails.

8 new episode titles and descriptions have been added to what I believe is the French Amazon Prime website, but they are not yet available to watch.
EDIT: I have discovered these episodes have aired in Australia and are available through AU Prime w/ Paramount Plus
Who is your favorite smurf? I'm not sure about mine. I'll think about it.
Wish:
Many episodes centered on Lily
More episodes about smurf girls, except Smurfette
Excellent, great and working well episodes, on the same level as Smurfy Secrets and The Smurfs Show
More dynamics between girls
Fewer unnecessary appearances of Grouchy and Dimwitty
Fears:
Episodes centered on Smurfette and Hefty.
Boring episodes like most episodes of season 2.
No more useless appearances of Grouchy and Dimwitty.
As passionate followers of the beloved Smurfs franchise, the announcement about the sequel to "Smurfs: The Lost Village" holds an immense significance to us. With prominent figures like David Bowers confirmed as director, and co-directors Lorne Cameron and Noah Baumbach lending their extraordinary vision to the film, we are left eager for an official announcement.
Sadly, we were devastated by the loss of Kelly Asbury, the incredibly talented director who contributed so much to the Smurfs universe, in June 26, 2020. We believe that the sequel would serve as a wonderful tribute to his lasting influence in the industry.
Our beloved Smurfs have been a part of popular culture for more than 60 years, with the franchise's worth estimated at over $4 billion (David Perlmutter. "The Encyclopedia of American Animated Television Shows"). The audience for these delightful characters is vast and global, a testament to their enduring appeal.
Given the franchise's massive audience and the commitment of a highly skilled directorial team, we urge the relevant stakeholders to officially announce the sequel to "Smurfs: The Lost Village". This will not only satisfy an insatiable anticipation among fans, but also pay homage to the late Kelly Asbury. Please sign this petition to urge the official announcement of the highly anticipated sequel.
