So many of you probably remember "Smurfette's Rose", where Smurfette and Vanity find a white rose. And Smurfette wishes for it to be blue. Her wish comes true, but at a heavy price. She turns white and smells like a rose.

Thus, I believe that the white rose was one of Gargamel's tricks. Besides, I bet you that he will do anything to get Smurfette back.
