Alcohol is a substance that's usually found in fermented drinks which acts as a depressant, altering one's mood while lessening their inhibitions and causing them to lose their motor coordination.

In mainstream Smurfs media, alcoholic beverages tend to appear mostly in the European comics than in the American-made cartoon show due to American sensibilities about children drinking such beverages. Very few comics that were officially published in English, such as "The Clockwork Smurf", feature the Smurfs or any other character drinking alcoholic beverages. However, in the comic book story "Bathing Smurfs", one Smurf did appear to be intoxicated from drinking berry juice.

In the Johan and Peewit comic book story "The War Of The Seven Springs", alcoholism became a problem when Aldebert Baufort made a wish to the witch Sara that the seven springs of his estate would produce wine instead of water, and the wish was granted.

Alcohol also appears in the cartoon show crossover "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue", but used mostly as a reference when Michael and Corey's father notices that there are a few beers missing in his refrigerator, hinting that Michael's drug problems may also include experimentation with alcohol.
