Plot Summary[]
In Lord Balthazar's castle, Balthazar is talking to Gargamel about King Gerard's doll called Clockwork Smurf. He asks Gargamel if that doll is strong and if it knows the way to the Smurf village. When his godson answers, Balthazar says that they will get that doll to find the Smurfs and change them into gold.
At Gargamel's hovel, Bigmouth knocks on the wizard's door, After Gargamel opens, Bigmouth says that he's lonely and that he wants to play, but Gargamel banishes him and closes the door. Bigmouth sadly leaves his place.
Bigmouth sees a group of people and asks them if they want to play. One woman yells "an ogre" and they run away afraid of him. Bigmouth starts crying about having no friends.
At King Gerard's castle, Clockwork Smurf and King Gerard are talking, and Clockwork tells Gerard that he misses the Smurfs, showing him a picture of his creator, Handy. King Gerard lets him go, saying that he should say hello to all the Smurfs for him and that he should pack enough oil.
Meanwhile, in the village Handy comes to Papa Smurf's house and tells him that he has just invented a machine that will make Clockwork talk. Papa Smurf looks at a thing called "a voice box" and Handy asks him if he can go to King Gerard's to bring it to Clockwork. Papa Smurf lets him and says that he should take the Smurflings along.
On the way to the castle, Slouchy asks if it's much further. Handy answers him "yes" and Snappy thinks why Papa Smurf thought that they'll have fun at the castle, but Sassette says that he sure wants to meet Clockwork. Handy tells them that Clockwork's great and fun, making Nat happy that they go. Then Nat, Slouchy, and Snappy ask if he really drink oil, if he's smart and strong, and Handy answers yes and the Smurflings are amazed at him.
Bigmouth is crying under the tree due to his loneliness. Then Clockwork comes past and stops at Bigmouth. They meet each other and Clockwork says that he wants to play, making the ogre happy. They quickly become friends and start playing. They crawl across the roses, jump on the mushrooms, play with the ball, Clockwork is jumping on the ogre, then they ascend stones and so on. Now Bigmouth feels much better because he's not lonely anymore.
Back at King Gerard's castle, Lord Balthazar and Gargamel try to persuade King Gerard to give them the Clockwork Smurf. King Gerard answers "no" on every question, so Balthazar asks him if he can see Clockwork, but Gerard tells him that it's not possible. Balthazar gets angry after the last answer, so King Gerard orders the guards to throw him out while Balthazar says that he'll pay for his behavior.
Handy and the Smurflings are still on the way, so Snappy asks if it's much further now, but his question is not necessary because they see the castle at the next moment. The Smurflings are amazed at such a big castle, and they start running toward it, leaving Handy, who thinks that he'll never understand Smurflings, behind.
Later at Balthazar's castle, Balthazar is showing something to his godson and that thing shows up to be a giant robot. Balthazar starts venting his anger to King Gerard, saying that no one will tell him what to do and no one will stop him. And the giant robot squeaks sometimes.
King Gerard gives the Smurfs who visit him a special smurfberry cream pie from Mrs. Sourberry. Then they start talking about Clockwork and Handy wonders how could they miss themselves. Snappy gets angry and starts yelling at Gerard that he promised that they will meet Clockwork, but Handy quickly calm him. Sassette proposes that they can play hide and seek, and Gerard tells them that they should spend the night in the castle. They start playing and Snappy's the first that will be searching for them. But this night at the castle, Lord Balthazar and Gargamel visit the castle in their giant robot suit. The guards start panicking while the robot is going toward the castle. They try to close the door, but it's too heavy, so they close it by using their hands and wake Gerard, who quickly starts organizing the defense. The robot is still moving toward the castle and Gargamel says that the last time he has as much fun as now was when Mummy took him to the beach. Lord Balthazar shouts that he wants Clockwork, but Gerard doesn't listen to him, and he gives the archers a sign to shoot. One of the arrows goes into the robot, nearly hits Gargamel who gets scared. The robot starts angrily hitting the door, starting to destroy it.
Bigmouth is in his house with Clockwork who's oiling himself. Bigmouth clumsily oils his friend and starts eating, saying that he's sad because Clockwork must go. Bigmouth stops eating and lays his cauldron on the table. He says that he has only one friend, pointing on Clockwork. Then he asks his mechanical friend if he promises to come back and Clockwork nods with his head.
Balthazar is still attacking the castle in his robot suit, and King Gerard, Handy, and the Smurflings are watching that scene from Gerard's balcony. The castle starts to rushing and Handy says that they should tell Papa Smurf while Gerard gives sign for a catapult. Gargamel says that they should leave because it's time for Azrael's dinner, but his godfather does not agree with him and keeps attacking. The guards prepare hot oil to spill it on the robot while Handy is giving directions to Sassette, who was chosen to tell Papa Smurf what's going on. Snappy isn't happy that Handy is sending Sassette, saying that this is Smurf work, but Sassette says that she's the best swimmer. She jumps while the guards are spilling oil on Balthazar and Gargamel. She gets out of the river, waving to the others and then she continues her way out.
Clockwork comes to the village when it's day again, asking for Handy, but Papa tells him that Handy went to visit him to King Gerard's. Then Papa wonders how they could miss each other and tells Clockwork that Handy has a suprise for him. Papa Smurf sends Hefty to bring Clockwork some smurfberry oil because he must be tired after a long trip, but then Sassette comes. She tells the Smurfs that a giant is trying to rush into King Gerard's castle and that nobody can get out. Clockwork gets angry due to this and he wants to go as soon as possible. Papa sends Hefty to Feathers so they'll leave immediately.
Gerard says that they can't hold the robot much longer and Handy thinks that Sassette must have get into the village by now. Slouchy asks what Clockwork can possibly do and Handy explains to him that Clockwork is very strong.
Bigmouth is sitting in front of his house, seeing Feathers with Clockwork and Papa on it, and calls Clockwork to come back, asking where they're going. Papa answers him and Bigmouth follow them.
The castle door is almost destroyed when Feathers, Papa, and Clockwork came. Gargamel reminds Balthazar that he said it'll be easy, but Balthazar just shouts "quiet" as many times before. King Gerard wants the Smurfs to leave, but Papa Smurf says that they won't leave and Clockwork goes to fight the robot. Gerard is not sure that Clockwork can beat the giant and Papa says that he's their only hope and that he hoped it wouldn't come to it. While Clockwork leaves the castle, King Gerard shoots a message to the robot "Look behind you" and Gargamel reads it, looking behind the robot. He sees Clockwork and tells Balthazar about this. He reminds his godfather that if they destroy Clockwork, there will be no Smurfs and no gold. Balthazar looks and laughs. Clockwork has something in his hand and the others are watching him when King Gerard says that Clockwork hasn't got a chance. Feathers flies past the robot, and Clockwork and Bigmouth comes too. When Clockwork is smashed by the giant's fist. Bigmouth cries and runs to Clockwork. Then he gets angry and tells the robot that he's bad, very bad. Gargamel sees Bigmouth and gets even more afraid. Then Bigmouth grabs the robot, start spinning it above his head, and throws it into the wall, causing it to crash. Balthazar and Gargamel swim away while Bigmouth is still crying next to the destroyed Clockwork.
Later in the village, Bigmouth and the other Smurfs are worriedly looking at the operation on which Handy is fixing Clockwork with the help of some Smurfs. Handy adds the last thing - a voice box and finishes. Then Clockwork wakes up and Bigmouth grabs him while the other Smurfs are cheering. Bigmouth says that he loves Clockwork and asks him if Clockwork likes him too. Then Clockwork says "hi" and Bigmouth is happy that his friend can speak. But others aren't so amazed and Slouchy asks if that is only he can say. Handy answers with just "One step at a time. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day.".
