Plot Summary[]
Painter is out in the forest with a few Smurfs watching him work on his latest masteurpiesa, trying to capture the flavor of nature by painting a smurfberry bush. Greedy, standing next to the bush itself, also tries to "capture the flavor" in his own way by testing out the berries, though he interferes with Painter's work in the process. Unfortunately, Gargamel comes along to greatly interfere with a bunch of mechanical arms attached to him, ready to capture a lot of Smurfs at the same time. The Smurfs quickly run into hiding as a claw on one of the arms crushes right through Painter's canvas and easel. But soon a claw reaches into a bush and pinches what turns out to be Bigmouth right in the butt, and Gargamel's attempt to get the claw off the angry ogre only makes matters worse as he tears a bit off the ogre's garment in the seat. The Smurfs safely watch as Bigmouth painfully wraps Gargamel's mechanical arms around the wizard.
Disgusted with Bigmouth always getting in the way of capturing Smurfs, Gargamel returns to his lair and creates a formula that will help him take care of both the ogre and the Smurfs. He pays Bigmouth a visit at night while he is sleeping and dresses him in a white hat and pants before casting the spell with the formula that turns Bigmouth "smurfy blue". With the transformation complete, Gargamel wakes up Bigmouth and lets him know that Papa Smurf will be very angry with him if he misses his morning chores. Bigmouth has no idea what Gargamel is talking about or why he is calling him "Bigmouth Smurf" until he sees his reflection in the mirror and sees that he is now a Smurf. He quickly gets out of bed and goes off into the forest to find the Smurf Village, happily skipping and singing the Smurf song.
Out in the forest, Brainy and Clumsy are collecting acorns at the Great Oak Tree. Clumsy says that if they could shake the tree, they would get more acorns, but Brainy tells his friend that even Hefty can't shake the Great Oak. Soon enough, though, the tree gets shaken and Brainy and Clumsy get buried in a pile of acorns. They both see that it's Bigmouth who's shaken the tree, and now he's blue and wearing Smurf clothes. They both try to run from Bigmouth, but he quickly grabs them, saying it's not nice to run away from Bigmouth Smurf. Brainy says they were just going to take the acorns back to the village, and Bigmouth says he's going too. Not wishing to lead the ogre into the village, Brainy tells Bigmouth that Papa Smurf wants more acorns, so while Bigmouth supposedly goes to shake more acorns from the tree, Brainy and Clumsy sneak off, with Brainy hoping Papa Smurf would be able to figure out what to do.
Back in the village, Papa Smurf asks how Brainy and Clumsy managed to gather up the acorns so quickly, and Brainy tries to explain that they had run into Bigmouth when the ogre shows up and dumps more acorns he has gathered onto Papa Smurf. The village leader sees that Bigmouth has been made to appear like a Smurf and asks the ogre where he got the clothes. Bigmouth tells Papa Smurf that his friend and neighbor Gargamel gave them to him. Papa Smurf tells his little Smurfs that he will look through the books for the spell Gargamel used to make Bigmouth look like a Smurf, but in the meantime, they are to treat him as if he really was a Smurf.
Over the course of the day, the Smurfs suffer through Bigmouth's attempts to emulate their lifestyle. The ogre sees Clumsy trying to merrily skip along only to keep tripping and falling, and decides to do the same, except that he keeps squashing flat Smurf houses whenever he trips and falls. He offers to help out Miner with his spelunking, except that Bigmouth is too big to fit into the mines and ends up collapsing the mine when he tries to squeeze into it. He empties out the storehouse of its smurfberries and drinks the village well dry, making Smurfette very upset with his lack of manners. Bigmouth sees that Smurfette is upset and goes to get some flowers to make her happy. Brainy only wishes Bigmouth would go away and never come back so that he would make everyone happy.
As Bigmouth goes to get the flowers, Brainy tries to offer some assistance to Papa Smurf while he is still looking for what caused Bigmouth's transformation, but the only help Papa Smurf can receive at the moment is for Brainy to be quiet. Then Bigmouth arrives with a big bouquet of flowers that he has uprooted from the ground which he dumps right before Smurfette. Brainy says they need to get Bigmouth out of the village before there isn't any village left. Then Clumsy asks if anyone wants to play smurfball, and Bigmouth says that he does. Papa Smurf believes that a game of smurfball might be good for getting Bigmouth out of trouble. During the kickoff, though, Bigmouth causes the ball to rip right through Painter's painting of Hefty kicking the smurfball.
A little later on, Papa Smurf finds out the spell Gargamel used on Bigmouth and says that the spell won't wear off until the next full moon, which is the following night. The Smurfs aren't certain how they will keep Bigmouth occupied for that long, but then Bigmouth comes to address his own concern: wanting a Smurf house of his own that he could sleep in. Papa Smurf tells the ogre that he would never fit inside a Smurf house, but Bigmouth stamps his feet in anger, demanding for a Smurf house. Papa Smurf then has a plan to give Bigmouth what he wants while also being rid of him.
During the night in Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard is talking in his sleep when he hears the sound of construction going on and thinks that it's Azrael making all the noise. By morning, the Smurfs have achieved the impossible: making a Smurf house big enough for Bigmouth, though it was built as a shell right over Gargamel's house. Jokey gives Bigmouth a little housewarming present before the ogre goes in and forcefully evicts its surprised owner and resident out of the house. The Smurfs make a run for it while Bigmouth is distracted with having his own Smurf house at last. He opens Jokey's present, which goes off with a bang, and says that he just loves being a Smurf.
Trivia[]
- Miner states that he is Irish. This suggests that not only does Ireland exist in the Smurf universe, but that there is another population of Smurfs in Ireland.
- Gargamel chases Greedy, Harmony, Smurfette, and Painter wearing four mechanical arms like Doc Ock.
- The scene in which Bigmouth dances around the village was used as a scene on a Boomerang promo.
