The Comte d'Aubenas (the Count of Aubenas) is a human character who is featured in the story "The Gambler Smurfs". He resides in the village of Aubenas and is very fond of games and gambling. His cousin is the Comte d'Armors.
In the beginning of the story, the Comte and the bailiff were seen betting on a swordfighting competition that was held in a pig pen, which resulted in both contestants being chased by the pigs when one of them fell into the mud where the pigs were resting. Later on, the Comte is clear-cutting the Smurf Forest in the hopes of developing a casino in that area, with both the Smurf Village and Gargamel's hovel also planned for eradication. Lumberjack Smurf, who was the first to notice the clear-cutting, went to warn Papa Smurf, who then went to the Comte's tent to look at the plans for the casino and realized that he was going to need Gargamel's help in saving the forest.
After the Smurfs attempt to train Gargamel to fight like a knight in an upcoming tournament with the Comte and his champions (and his apparent failure), the evil wizard approached the Comte to challenge him in the tournament. The Comte accepted the challenge, but on the day of the tournament, the bailiff told him that all his guards' weapons had disappeared (which the Smurfs had hidden and discarded), so the Comte decided to host other games such as a pig race, a sack race, a ring toss, and a pillow fight. Gargamel and the Comte's champions played all four games and were tied in all the events. To settle the tie, the Comte challenged Gargamel to a game of dice, where the first person who rolls a seven or an eleven wins. By chance, Gargamel rolled a seven on his first try, and the Comte agreed that he would stop the clear-cutting of the forest, giving the wizard his pair of dice. However, the Comte still had a desire for playing games, and near the end of the story challenged the bailiff to a game of chess.
