"Diaper Daddy" is the second episode of Season 1 of the CGI TV series, The Smurfs.

Synopsis[]
When everyone is tired of changing Baby's diapers, Handy decides to invent a robot that will do the job.
Summary[]
Baby Smurf crawls around the village happily. However, Handy accidentally bangs Grouchy's thumb with a hammer due to a disgusting stench. Elsewhere, Papa Smurf assigns Blue and Yellow Painter Smurf to paint the houses on the left and right, respectively. Suddenly, as they run off because of the same stench, Papa Smurf is distracted by the presence of Baby, whose smelly diaper makes the village leader recoil and realize that the infant is in need of a diaper change.
Papa Smurf looks to his little Smurfs to see who will man up to the task, and all the Smurfs, including Smurfette, end up hiding themselves away instead of accepting diaper duty. Disgusted by the lack of cooperation with his little Smurfs, Papa Smurf then volunteers Handy to do the duties of diaper changing. Handy says that should be Smurfette's duty, since he believes that diaper changing is only for girls. Smurfette slaps Handy's face with a diaper in disgust, and Papa Smurf hands over Baby Smurf for Handy to do diaper duty. Handy leaves Baby Smurf alone to play with his box of toys, which he empties until Baby is pulling a Smurf toy figure out of his mouth, and at this sight Handy has an idea.
Soon, Handy has the Village Bell rung to summon every Smurf to the unveiling of his latest invention -- the Diaper Daddy. A robotic Smurf then emerges from the bell tower with Baby clinging onto its leg, and as the Smurfs watch, the robot picks up Baby, puts him in a foldout changing tray, then extends out a retractable curtain frame to give the child some privacy. Soon the diaper change is finished, and Diaper Daddy shows the infant Smurf smiling while holding a small bag in its hand, which it immediately incinerates by firing a laser beam at it. The Smurfs are so amazed by this new invention, they are wondering if it can do other things besides diaper duty. Soon Diaper Daddy is doing more than just changing Baby's diapers -- it is also acting as the child's personal nanny, taking him out for walks (though pushing aside any Smurf that gets in its way), heating up bottles for feeding, playing with Baby, turning into a swing, and even reading to him a bedtime story. Papa Smurf seems pleased with Handy's new invention so far.
One morning, though, Blue and Yellow Painter Smurf stand on top of a Smurf house's roof, arguing over which houses they are going to paint either blue or yellow. In the middle of the argument, a paint can is knocked down from the roof and lands on top of Diaper Daddy's head. This scrambles his circuits and makes him see now everything as a threat, including a harmless insect, which its lasers zap it until it drops nearly dead to the ground. Handy sees that something is wrong with Diaper Daddy and tries to stop him, but Diaper Daddy now sees Handy as a threat and throws him a great distance before it runs out of the village carrying Baby.
Out in the forest, Gargamel is picking mushrooms when suddenly Diaper Daddy arrives with Baby Smurf. Gargamel orders Azrael to attack him, but the cat gets zapped by Diaper Daddy's laser while trying to catch them. The robot continues its way into Gargamel's way, bumping the wizard high in the air.
Fearing that Baby is now in danger, Papa Smurf has a group of Handy, Brainy, Jokey, Hefty, and Grouchy follow him out into the forest to chase after Diaper Daddy and stop it before it does any more damage. While the Smurfs fight over whose fault it was for Diaper Daddy's recent behavior, Jokey gives Brainy a present when he comments their arguing, which blows him up sky-high enough to see where Diaper Daddy has gone with Baby -- to the Old Tower.
The Smurfs go to the tower, only to find that Diaper Daddy is already at the battlement near the top of the tower, defending itself and Baby with its fireballs. Jokey gives Diaper Daddy one of his presents, hoping that it would blow him up, but Diaper Daddy gives the present back to Jokey, causing it to blow up in Jokey's face (much to Brainy's amusement).
Handy then tells the other Smurfs that Diaper Daddy has an off button on the back of its head, and seeing Baby is playing around with Diaper Daddy, they try to communicate to Baby which button he should press and whereby having Jokey mime the actions of Diaper Daddy. Unfortunately, Gargamel interrupts the proceedings by trying to capture the Smurfs while they are thus dealing with Diaper Daddy. However, Diaper Daddy zaps Azrael away and then does the same to Gargamel, sending the evil wizard crying in pain with his butt on fire.
Meanwhile, Grouchy takes it upon himself to climb up the Old Tower in order to shut off Diaper Daddy, who then senses that Smurf's movements and tries to get rid of him by blasting shots at him. Diaper Daddy then climbs to the very top of the tower, where it continues to hold Grouchy at bay until it is distracted by Baby's diaper needing a change. Grouchy presses the button, and the robot goes inert, although that causes Baby to fall out of the change tray and straight down the tower. Grouchy dives down clinging to a vine and rescues Baby before they hit the ground together, safe and sound while the other Smurfs cheer.
Suddenly, the cheering ends as they smell that Baby's diaper needs a change, and so the quest for who will change the diaper next continues.

- This is the first appearance of Baby Smurf in animated Smurfs media since the 1981 TV series.
- Diaper Daddy makes his first appearance in this episode.
- His appearance and functioning are very similar to the Clockwork Smurf.
- This is the first episode in the series in which Clumsy does not appear in.
- The animation in this episode is noticeably more polished than any other episode. The characters also move more fluently.
- This is one of the two episodes to do this animation technique, the other being "Who Nose?".
- Diaper Daddy tossing people above the forest is similar to Asterix with the Roman soldiers flying through the air.
- A clip of this episode was seen in its unfinished animation process in a video that was promoting the series.[1]
- Clips of this episode were used for the remix song "Protecting the Baby".
Goofs[]
- Baby's eyebrows are missing when Handy first unveils Diaper Daddy from the Village Bell.
- When Diaper Daddy throws Handy across the village, in the English dub, his French voice actor, Xavier Fangon, can be heard screaming with his English voice actor, Joshua Rubin.
- When the Smurfs stop fighting in the forest, Hefty and Handy's eyebrows are white.
