"Dreamer: Master Of Love" is the fortieth episode of Season 2 of the CGI TV series, The Smurfs.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Persuaded to be an expert in love, Dreamer uses all the great clichés of romance novels to unite two Smurfs whose couple is more than unlikely -- Papa Smurf and Willow. Although his attempts are unsuccessful, he refuses to give up.

Summary[]

Me I don’t like love stories

Dreamer has just finished reading a glorious book and sighs in delight. Brainy observes this and asks Dreamer what's going on. Dreamer tells Brainy that he was reading a love story. Grouchy says he doesn't like love stories, but Dreamer claims it's because he's never seen it in full bloom and love is about to blossom in the village between Papa Smurf and Willow!

Dreamer demonstrates by overanalyzing the interaction between them. Papa Smurf gives Willow flowers, making Dreamer believe this is the first step to kissing - only to find that Willow ate half of them and they need the flowers for a potion. Brainy doesn't see the love, but Dreamer says the more they're not in love, the more they obviously are. Brainy remarks that this doesn't make sense and departs on his smurfway when Dreamer bets him they'll kiss by tomorrow night. Grouchy decides to take the bet.

Dreamer and Grouchy go to Chef for pizza for the two "in love" Smurfs. He tries to add a couple of adjustments, but Chef declines and orders him to leave the work to the professionals. Dreamer also observes the dishes, saying the fancier the dishes, the more emotion. Just then, he hears Glammy call him and Dreamer rushes outside.

The Smurf Band sit on a bench and chill until Dreamer asks what they're going to play for a romantic dinner. The music turns out to be loud and unfitting until Dreamer stops them and makes them make passionate music. This delights Dreamer and Chef tells him the pizza is ready. Dreamer imagines how the date would play out. He believes it will end in a pizza kiss.

Papa Smurf and Willow continue to make their potion when Dreamer barges in and puts them in two chairs. The Smurf Band make the romantic music outside. Unfortunately, the two leaders find this to be awkward and Papa Smurf decides to give the Smurf Band and Grouchy the pizza instead. As they eat, Grouchy states he won the bet, which Dreamer detests. He says he is a master of love who is just getting started and he needs a helping hand.

Dreamer and Grouchy watch the plan go into action in the storage shed, where Papa Smurf and Willow have gotten a note from Handy telling them to meet by this place, though they are confused about how he knew about the poisonous pong-pong spider. Just then, Dreamer closes the door and locks it to further make the love. He imagines Papa Smurf asking Willow to dance since their locked up for the night and they end with a kiss. Unfortunately, this fails as the two immediately escape and say it was odd how they got locked in there. As they leave to chase the poisonous spider, Dreamer denies Grouchy saying he won the bet - again. Dreamer says he will stop at nothing to make this work.

Dreamer has Poet arrive in Papa Smurf's lab, where the village leader and Willow continue working on their potion. They find Poet to be a pest and throw him out. As he lands on Dreamer and Grouchy, Poet remarks the lack of love and storms off.

Dreamer is upset by nobody believing in love in the village... that is, until Jokey presents him with a gift, saying this is a way to make people fall in love. Dreamer gets another fantasy, though this ends with Willow and Papa Smurf's gifts exploding, as the same for Dreamer. Jokey laughs and walks away, leading Dreamer to believe he has no other choice but himself and drags Grouchy along.

Papa Smurf and Willow arrive in the forest, where Dreamer makes one final attempt - throw them in danger! Dreamer presents Grouchy with a gigantic monster he is in that he got from Handy's workshop. Dreamer gets yet another fantasy, but it is cut short as Papa Smurf and Willow recognize the monster as Dreamer since the other Smurfs told them what he is up to. They laugh at the idea of a smooch until a snake suddenly shows up, ready to pounce on the other Smurfs.

Dreamer, Papa Smurf, and Willow take cover on a tree, where Dreamer apologizes for the real danger instead of the fake danger he had planned. Just then, Willow gets the idea to use the potion. However, it initially seems like it failed, as it only enrages the snake. Suddenly, Willow says there's something she needs to tell Papa Smurf, and likewise, so does Papa Smurf. The two are about to do the very thing Dreamer wanted until the potion works. The snake becomes small and zooms off.

As the chaos is over, Dreamer's beliefs are put down as Papa Smurf and Willow say that they possibly didn't use enough potion. The two acted friendly with each other, which shocks Dreamer since they almost faced death. The two village leaders take the snake and decide to use it in a potion. Distraught, Dreamer declares Grouchy as the winner of the bet.

Dreamer sits on the bench, upset as there was no love. He becomes delusional at this point, believing Storm and Vanity can become a thing. His belief is destroyed as Storm asks Vanity if she sees a pimple on his face, which offends him. Dreamer declares his next mission to make Storm and Vanity kiss by sunset, which Grouchy says he really doesn't like love. Dreamer suddenly kisses Grouchy, leaving the latter in surprise.

Trivia[]

  • The plot of the episode focuses on Dreamer's attempts to get Papa Smurf and Willow together, though the latter two do not show much attraction. However, before they are almost eaten by the snake, they appear to harbor some feelings for each other. This marks the second time in the series that implies that the two like each other, with the first being "Smurfy Magic Duel".
  • Grouchy acts as Dreamer's partner throughout the episode. This is similar to "Speak For Yourself, Farmer Smurf", where Grouchy was Farmer's partner.
  • Dreamer's monster suit is the same as Scaredy's monster costume that transformed itself in "The Scariest Smurf". Dreamer mentions that he got it from Handy.
  • The English dub of this episode makes this one of the very few episodes in which Mark Irons does not voice any characters.
  • The pan of the village in the beginning recycles footage from "Gargamel Goes Gaga".
  • The shots of Rocky and Meteorite with their instruments reuse footage from "The Cuddly Toy".
  • The shot of Dreamer snapping his fingers is reuse from "Who Nose?" as the Smurf snapping his fingers was used for Vanity.
