Fafnir is a character that appears in the Johan And Peewit episode "The Cursed Country". He is a dragon that is being used and controlled by a man named Monulf, capturing people he can use to mine diamonds from a cave that he can sell for profit.
In the episode, Fafnir attacks the Smurf Village and causes the Smurfs to be captured and put to work for Monulf. Hefty and Smurfette, the only ones who escaped being captured, contact Johan and Peewit, who then journey into the forest and through a barren desert to find the Smurf Village and the dragon who caused its destruction. In their search for the dragon, they find the cave that the Smurfs are held prisoner in as well as the king, but they also find the dragon's master, who tells them that they won't be able to escape. By brewing a concoction made of snapdragons, Johan puts Fafnir to sleep. Then with a carving of Homnibus' magic water stick, Papa Smurf journeys into the belly of the dragon to cause it to breathe water instead of fire. Fafnir isn't kept asleep for long as he awakens and Monulf has him attack the ones attempting to escape. But soon with Papa Smurf's use of the magic stick carving, Fafnir is no longer breathing fire but water, and the dragon is no longer a threat as he helps Johan, Peewit, and the king return to their castle.
It also appears in the intro sequence of Season 2. In the intro, it blows fire to Sir Johan and Peewit.
Fafnir was originally known as Chamusquina in the Johan And Peewit comic book story "The Cursed Land".
