"Brainy Smurf, Friend To All The Animals" is a Season 5 episode of the 1980s Smurfs cartoon show.

Synopsis[]
Brainy wants to be like Nat, so he starts helping animals and calling himself "friend to all the animals". Later, he and Nat end up saving a wild cat that falls in love with Azrael.
Plot Summary[]
The episode begins with the Smurflings playing their music and Snappy comments that they have super smurfy rhythm. Then, their playing is stopped by Brainy, who's hitting on the gong, happily telling the Smurflings the bad news: it's time for memorizing daily Quotations of Brainy Smurf. Then he starts repeating the sentence: "Anything you can do, Brainy does better!" and the Smurflings start playing their instruments again until they hear a dog whining. Then Puppy shows, with a thorn in his leg and Nat quickly runs to him to get the thorn out. Brainy stops him saying that it's a perfect opportunity for him to demonstrate his "superior skills in all things". Brainy rudely grabs the thorn and Puppy barks at him, so Brainy jumps back right into Snappy's drums. Meanwhile, Nat gets the thorn out and Puppy licks him to thank him for getting the thorn out. Then Snappy angrily repeats Brainy's sentence from before, making Brainy angry to say that he can be friend to the animals too - all he needs is a friendly smile and official ID card.

Brainy is now a friend to all the animals.
Later, Nat calls Flutterby while Fuzzy is next to him, saying that the three will go into the forest. Then they hear Brainy saying "make that four of us" and see him with a new hat and a backpack. Nat comes closer to Brainy and Brainy tells him the news - he has changed his way of life and became "Brainy Smurf, Friend to all the animals".
Out in the forest, a wild cat is running down the hill while being chased by Lord Balthazar and his two dogs. Balthazar stops and takes the crossbow, shooting an arrow into the way where the wild cat is, but he misses his target. Unfortunately, the wild cat comes to the abyss and has its way blocked, but when it sees Balthazar behind, it decides to jump down, landing on a branch. When it runs away, Balthazar angrily says that he'll get that wild cat.
Brainy and Nat are walking through the forest when they see a beaver that has a toothache. Brainy introduces himself to the beaver, showing his ID card. He arrives to the conclusion that beaver doesn't brush its teeth enough, so he wants to show it 500 affective brushing techniques, but Nat stops him and proposes to get the beaver's tooth out. Brainy wants to use the pliers, but his patient throws him away like the Smurfs usually do.
The animal rescuers come to the skunk who's sneezing, which Nat notices. Brainy takes a handkerchief to show the skunk how to blow the nose. The skunk is annoyed so it makes Brainy stink, and Brainy now really wants to have problems with his nose.
Brainy and Nat are now at a pregnant porcupine, so Brainy shows his book to prove how good experiences he has with babies, but Mrs. Porcupine angrily uses its spikes to get Brainy out of its home. Brainy walks away past two squirrels, saying that Mrs. Porcupine doesn't know a quality literature.
Brainy's helping a dragon who has a throat problem, ordering the dragon to open the mouth. As usually, he makes a big mistake and gets burned by the dragon's fire. Out of the cave, Brainy tells Nat that he wants more respect from the animals. When Nat makes an argument, Brainy remembers a frog that was threating him wrong when he tried to help. Nat proposes to go home, but Brainy says he will prove that he's friend to all the animals even if it kills him.
The wild cat comes to Gargamel's castle, in which Gargamel is preparing a spicy stew that can explode if he adds just one drop of lava juice too much. Azrael meows, which interrupts Gargamel and he accidentally makes his stew explode. Gargamel gets so angry that he throws Azrael out through the window, where Azrael meets the wild cat. The cats immediately fall in love with each other. Gargamel comes out to see what's going on and sees the cats together, which shocks him and he pulls Azrael back into the house. The wild cat keeps trying to find ways to come into the house through the windows, that Gargamel closes. He's really angry with Azrael.
Meanwhile, Balthazar follows the wild cat's footprints and finds out that it escaped, so he sets a trap in case if it comes back.

The cat doesn't look very thankful to Brainy... it looks more like it wants to eat him!
Gargamel is locking the door with a lot of planks when Azrael escapes through the chimney and joins the wild cat. Gargamel shows up from the chimney, shouting on Azrael who doesn't care for him. Two children come, seeing Gargamel, and complains about if he's Santa Claus. While the cats are running, the wild cat steps right into Balthazar's trap, trapping its leg, so Azrael runs for the help. As Azrael disappears, Brainy shows up and introduces himself to the cat but he doesn't notice its trapped leg. Fortunately, Nat comes and tells Brainy what happened to the poor cat. Nat gets into action. He asks Brainy for a rope and Brainy throws it to the Smurfling, accidentally tying up himself. Nat ties the rope to the trap, throwing it over a branch and now he and Brainy are trying to pull the rope enough to free wild cat. They succeed, so Brainy happily goes to the cat and says that he was very pleased to help, but the cat isn't thankful and decides to eat its rescuer, but luckily, it hears Azrael and goes away from which it heard the voice, giving Nat enough time to pull Brainy away. Azrael returns with Gargamel, who's disgusted when seeing the cats together again. Just then, Balthazar comes in from the forest with his two dogs, happy that he has finally found the runaway cat. Gargamel now doesn't want the cat to be killed but he must let Balthazar to pull out his rifle. Nat doesn't want anyone to die too, so he tries to persuade Brainy to help him save that cat again, but he's not friend to all the animals anymore but just friend to Brainy Smurf. Gargamel attempts to stop his godfather by telling him that he can't hit Azrael, but Lord Balthazar doesn't care and aims the shot. Nat finally succeeds and Brainy does the right thing - he jumps down and redirects Balthazar's shot into Balthazar's foot. Gargamel takes both of the cats and runs away from Balthazar who's having his leg hurt. So he sends the dogs after the wizard, but Brainy calls them having the dog biscuits and feeds them. Nat happily says that Brainy's a genius.
Gargamel gets angry again due to having the injured cat in his hovel while someone knocks on his door. Brainy and Nat has left the message that the cat must be returned to the mountains, making the wizard happy that he can get rid of it and he thanks to the "Friend to all the animals", signed on the message, while jumping with joy.
Nat is proud of Brainy to do all those things, but Brainy is exhausted and falls on the ground and Nat says that the friend to all the animals now needs a friend and they're rounded by animals.

- This is the only Season 5 episode not to feature Papa Smurf.
- Brainy is the only adult Smurf to appear in this episode.
- Brainy becoming "friend to all the animals" will later be referenced in "It's A Puppy's Life".
- This is one of the few episodes where neither Gargamel nor Azrael is the main antagonist.
- Azrael befriending the wild cat would be referenced in the show Zoboomafoo in the episode "Tracks" where a wild lynx is shown to be friends with an orange cat.
