Franklin W. Welker (born March 12, 1946) is an American voice actor, known for providing the voices of over 1200 different characters. He is largely known for voicing animal characters such as Santa's Little Helper and Snowball II from The Simpsons, as well as other characters without any actual speech, such as Orbitty from The Jetsons. He also provided the voice of Megatron, as well as several other characters from the 1980s syndicated Transformers cartoon show and is possibly best known for providing the voice of Freddy Jones in most incarnations of the Scooby-Doo series. He also uses a "Rainman-y" voice on several characters, including Ralph the Guard from Animaniacs and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
On the 1981 Smurfs cartoon show, Welker is responsible for the voice of Hefty, Poet, Wild Smurf, Puppy, Clockwork, Peewit, Weepy (in Season 7), as well as many background characters and animals. In the 2011 Smurfs movie as well as its 2013 sequel, The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol, The Smurfs: The Legend Of Smurfy Hollow, and Smurfs: The Lost Village, he does the voice of Azrael.
