Synopsis

Plot Summary
Dreamy was in his bed, dreaming about the future, when Baby Smurf decides to give him a wet wake-up call now that it was morning. Smurfette finds Baby Smurf in Dreamy's house just as he woke up, eager to tell her about all the things he had seen in his dream like "smurfovision, smurfominiums, smurfmobiles" and such. Smurfette has no idea what Dreamy is even talking about and says that he should focus less on dreaming about the future and more on helping Handy with his new "honey smurfer" invention. Dreamy says that he will, though he thinks it isn't as smurfy as the things he has seen in his dreams.
Soon, the Smurfs are out in the forest trying out the new invention, which works like a Ferris wheel except that Handy can drive it around from one tree to another to collect more honey with the Smurfs riding in the honey smurfer. But as they make their rounds through the forest, Gargamel spots them and gives chase after them along with his cat Azrael. Hefty puts the machine in gear and makes the honey smurfer go faster so they can outrun Gargamel, who soon hits his head on a tree branch. But then the honey smurfer gets out of control as it rolls down a hill and crashes into a tree. Smurfette is upset to see the honey spilled and that there will be no honey for tomorrow's breakfast. Handy says that he and Hefty will fix the machine while the other Smurfs should go find another honey tree. Brainy has Smurfette and Dreamy go off in one direction while he and Clumsy go in another direction.
In Gargamel's castle, the evil wizard sees and feels the lump that has formed on his head and blames the Smurfs and Azrael for it when he hears knocking on his door. He tells whoever is knocking to go away, but the person on the other side of the door says that if he doesn't open, he will regret it for the rest of his life. Fearfully he opens and sees that a gypsy woman is there, introducing herself as Miss Esmeralda Fortune and saying she has come to predict his future. Gargamel says he doesn't believe in fortune telling, but Esmeralda tells him to give her his hand, and as he does, she reads from it and predicts that a black cat will be crossing his path soon. Gargamel scoffs at the prediction, but then soon a black cat does appear to cross his path, not realizing that Esmeralda's partner Cohort has painted Azrael black, who then dives into a barrel of water to wash it off.
Gargamel seems impressed at first at the prediction coming true, but then thinks it could be just a coincidence and demands more proof from her. Esmeralda asks Gargamel to let her see the bumps on his head, and so he lets her see the big one he got that day. From that Esmeralda predicts that a rainstorm is headed this way, which again makes Gargamel laugh, saying that there isn't even a cloud in the sky. But as he looks out his window to see the sky, a deluge of water hits him, courtesy of Cohort whom Gargamel doesn't see hiding on top of his roof. With the fortune teller now asking if the wizard believes her, Gargamel says that he has one question in mind about his future: whether he will ever catch the Smurfs. Esmeralda pulls out her tarot cards and from them reads that he will capture all the Smurfs he desires, but only if he puts a bag of gold inside the hollow of a yellow spotted oak tree. Gargamel says that he has no gold, and Esmeralda says that he's a wizard, which means he should conjure up a bag of gold easily. As the fortune teller leaves, Gargamel asks where he will find a yellow spotted oak tree, and Esmeralda predicts that he will be able to find it.
After the fortune teller and her partner leave, Gargamel is busy painting up rocks with gold paint, saying that with the fake gold rocks he will be able to catch all the Smurfs he wants. Meanwhile, Esmeralda's partner Cohort is out in the forest spotting up an oak tree with yellow paint while the fortune teller leaves one of her tarot cards on the ground as a calling card before they leave. Soon Dreamy and Smurfette encounter the same tree and wonder what's inside it when they hear Gargamel and Azrael approaching. They go inside the tree to hide from the wizard as he comes to stuff the bag of fake gold rocks inside its hollow. But he soon spots them as they come out from another opening and grabs them as Azrael chases them around the wizard, saying that he never expected Esmeralda's prediction to come true.
Back where Handy and Hefty were busy fixing the honey smurfer, the four Smurfs are starting to get worried about Smurfette and Dreamy, with Brainy saying that they should go tell Papa Smurf. However, Papa Smurf appears on the scene and hears what has happened from the four Smurfs. He says that they should search every inch of the forest for Dreamy and Smurfette, and in their search they come across a spotted oak tree that to Papa Smurf looks very unnatural. Brainy finds a tarot card near the tree, which Papa Smurf says is used by fortune tellers, who he thinks has something to do with the spotted tree, with Brainy adding that the fortune teller may also have something to do with the missing Smurfs.
As Papa Smurf and his little Smurfs now look for the fortune teller, Esmeralda and her partner return to the tree to find that a bag of gold has been left there by Gargamel. However, she soon discovers that she has been tricked, as the bag is full of gold painted rocks. Greatly displeased at the thought of somebody making a fool out of her, Esmeralda tells her companion that they will return to the camp where they will plan a revenge.
Papa Smurf and his little Smurfs are at the fortune teller's wagon, looking inside and seeing all the tricks that fortune tellers use to fool unsuspecting customers that they can see into the spirit realm. But one of the things that Clumsy sees is not a trick, as Esmeralda's partner Cohort has spotted the Smurfs that have entered the wagon. The fortune teller herself appears and demands to know what they're doing inside the wagon. Papa Smurf introduces himself and the others as Smurfs, and she says they're the reason Gargamel has tricked her. Papa Smurf now sees that Gargamel has the missing Smurfs and offers to help Esmeralda get even with the wizard while at the same time she helps him rescue the missing Smurfs.
At Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard is happily singing his song and preparing to make Smurf stew with the Smurfs and snails he captured when Esmeralda pays him another visit. She tells him her if that he eats those Smurfs, she predicts that he will be haunted by their spirits forever. Gargamel tells her that he doesn't believe in spirits, but Esmeralda tells him that they should play it safe and look into the wizard's future as she sets up her crystal ball on Gargamel's table. The evil wizard is not interested in hearing anything that she has to say and prepares to light the fire, but Esmeralda interrupts him by calling upon the spirits on the other side to show what his future will be like.
Unnoticed by Gargamel, Cohort blows out the candles on the wizard's table with a bellows, giving the impression that she has now made contact with his future. Soon Gargamel sees a vision of Papa Smurf telling him that he will have Smurfs that will haunt him forever, which is followed by three glowing Smurfs floating in the air, saying "We're going to get you!" over and over, which in reality is the work of Cohort and Handy's honey smurfer machine. This makes Gargamel and Azrael so fearful that they run off into the forest, not knowing that the whole thing was a trick played on him by Esmeralda and the Smurfs. Papa Smurf says it will be a long time before Gargamel decides to eat Smurfs, and Esmeralda says it will be a long time before he ever decides to fool a fortune teller, which makes the other Smurfs laugh.
Upon their return to the village, Papa visits Dreamy, who asks him if anyone can predict the future. Papa then replies that it's best to personally dream about the future. Dreamy then says, "Good idea, Papa Smurf, I'll get started right now!".
Trivia
- Three of the things Dreamy had seen in his dream of the future did indeed come true -- the smurfmobile appeared in "The Smurfbox Derby", the smurfovision in "Handy's Window Vision", and the smurfominium in "Skyscraper Smurfs".
- While there are some episodes which start with Smurfs actually being in a dream, in this episode the viewer doesn't get to see what it is that Dreamy is dreaming about.
- In the syndicated version of the episode, there was a bit of dialogue between Papa Smurf and Dreamy at the very end that was edited out.
- The iTunes edition of this episode carries the syndicated Smurfs Adventures repackaging of this episode, as well as most of Season 4 (as opposed to some episodes which remain uncut, though all episodes use the shortened "Smurfs Adventures" version of the Season 4 intro sequence and credits).
