Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Gargamel finds himself in Puppy's body when trying to swap bodies with Papa Smurf.

Plot Summary[]

Some of the Smurfs in the village are having fun kicking around a smurfball near the Smurflings' playhouse. Snappy kicks the ball to Clumsy, who tries to catch it but ends up tripping over a rock and letting the ball land near Puppy. Snappy tells Puppy to catch the ball, but he seems to lack any energy or desire to play. Snappy wonders what's wrong with Puppy, and Brainy comes along to tell Snappy that Puppy is obviously bored and that he needs a challenge. Grandpa Smurf appears on the scene with Sassette and says that what that dog needs are a few new tricks. To that end, Grandpa Smurf pulls out of his beard what he calls a "smurfarang". This interests Puppy enough to get up and chase after the new toy when Grandpa Smurf gives it a good throw, with Snappy and Nat chasing after Puppy.

Meanwhile, out in the forest, Gargamel is out in the forest with his cat Azrael and his apprentice Scruple, wearing a pair of special sighting goggles while carrying two egg-shaped crystals. Gargamel suddenly steps on Azrael's tail, causing the cat to yelp in pain, which startles the evil wizard enough to cause the crystal eggs to slip out of his hand and make Scruple dive to safely catch them before they hit the ground and break. Gargamel tells Scruple to be careful with the crystal eggs because they have been passed down through generations of wizards, which is at least what Gargamel claims that the Wizard's Catalog says. Gargamel says that with these ectoplasmic eggs, he will become the leader of the Smurfs who will lead the other Smurfs right into his stew pot, a thought which makes Gargamel laugh.

Suddenly, Gargamel gets hit in the forehead with Grandpa Smurf's "smurfarang", and also hears the voices of the Smurfs getting closer. Gargamel puts one of the eggs onto the ground and then climbs up a tree along with Azrael and Scruple to wait and watch. Soon the Smurflings show up with Grandpa Smurf and Puppy as the dog finally picks up the "smurfarang" where it had landed. Snappy finds the crystal egg and wonders what kind of bird would lay such an egg. Sassette suggests taking the egg to Papa Smurf so he can find out where it came from, which Grandpa Smurf agrees to, and as the Smurfs head back to the village with the egg, the terrible trio watch from the treetop. Scruple thinks Gargamel is getting softhearted to just let those few Smurfs get away, but Gargamel tells his student why settle for a few measly Smurfs when they could have a whole 100-course meal.

Back in the village, Papa Smurf is eager to get going to studying the egg's origin that he asks for it from Vanity, who has been using it to stare at his multiple reflections in the egg's facets. Grandpa Smurf now has to deal with the fact that Puppy is now so interested in chasing after the "smurfarang" that he just can't enough of it.

In Gargamel's castle, while Scruple is busy building a cage, the evil wizard tells his apprentice with the eggs he will switch bodies with Papa Smurf, with the cage built to trap Papa Smurf in Gargamel's body once the transference is complete. After entering the cage and Scruple locking it, Gargamel sprinkles some magic powder onto the egg, eager to begin the transference with Papa Smurf, saying that the village leader should have the egg in his possession by now. The egg then glows and shows Papa Smurf's face in it, which means the next step is for Gargamel to recite the incantation to complete the transference.

In the Smurf Village, the egg in Papa Smurf's hands begins to glow, which makes the village leader amazed at the sight. Then suddenly Puppy knocks over Papa Smurf as he is chasing after the "smurfarang", causing the elderly Smurf to lose his grip on the crystal egg. Puppy catches the egg and looks into it, sniffing the object with curiosity. At the same time, Gargamel is beginning to feel the transference spell taking effect, and he is eager to take control of Papa Smurf's body when he looks into his egg and sees that it isn't Papa Smurf looking into the egg, but the Smurfs' dog Puppy. Suddenly the transference occurs, and Puppy and Gargamel both switch bodies with each other. Papa Smurf then retrieves the egg from Puppy and scolds him for recklessness before taking the egg into his laboratory. Gargamel is disappointed that he didn't get transferred into Papa Smurf's body but decides to take advantage of being in Puppy's body, saying that as long he plays along as a nice little doggy, he will soon have a Smurf barbecue. Meanwhile, Scruple decides to torment Gargamel, who now has Puppy's spirit inside of him, by having him run ragged through the swamp for his own personal amusement.

Gargamel finds out that Puppy's life isn't an easy life to live as the Smurfs subject him to a smurfberry bubble bath, which makes him sneeze as he is allergic to smurfberries. After the bath, the Smurfs give him a thorough brushing the get the tangles out of his fur, which Gargamel finds rather painful to bear. Snappy feeds Puppy a bowl full of smurfberry mush for his meal, which Gargamel doesn't like the taste of as he spits it out. The Smurflings wonder what's wrong with Puppy, and Hefty suggests that he needs some good exercise in order to build up an appetite, so he has Puppy follow after him on a healthy jog. Soon all the exercise wears Gargamel as Puppy out, while Puppy as Gargamel gets worn out from all the exercise that Scruple puts him through as the dog he always wanted.

Finally getting fed up with having to live a dog's life, Gargamel decides that it's time to put his plan of capturing Smurfs into motion. He sees Clumsy passing by Puppy's dog house and goes after him, making it look like he wants to play a game. However, after Clumsy finds himself being carried into a deep pit, he hears the dog speak in a human voice, which makes the less-than-intelligent Smurf rather curious. Soon, the other Smurfs get carried by Puppy into the same pit, wondering why Puppy is behaving like he is now. They get their answer when the dog speaks to them in a voice that they all recognize as Gargamel's.

While Scruple gives Gargamel as Puppy a feeding after chasing around Azrael, Papa Smurf in his laboratory in the village finds himself stumped when he discovers that there is no mention of a crystal egg anywhere in his books. Then Papa Smurf steps outside when he hears Puppy's barking and sees that the entire village is empty save for Puppy. Papa Smurf asks Puppy if he has seen his little Smurfs, and soon gets his answer when he hears Puppy speak in Gargamel's voice. Papa Smurf realizes that something must have happened to Puppy and dives into his laboratory to avoid Gargamel reaching in and pawing at the elderly Smurf. Papa Smurf hears Gargamel saying that he couldn't resist the magic egg, and so he jumps onto the table to flip the egg out through the role in the roof, causing it to land and break. Suddenly, Puppy and Gargamel switch back to their original bodies, with Gargamel finding himself eating sauteed slime scraps upon his return.

Papa Smurf sees that Puppy is back to being Puppy again, and together they go off into the forest to find the other Smurfs and to lift them out of the pit that Gargamel as Puppy placed them in. The Smurfs are glad to see Puppy back to the way he is, and so is Grandpa Smurf, who then pulls out of his beard a frisbee for the dog to chase after as he rides with Puppy into the setting sun.
