Leaf (original French name Feuille) is a recurring character of the 2021 cartoon show who first appeared in season 2. She is voiced by Jade Wheeler.
Character[]
She is a Nature Fairy destined to replace Mother Nature, since the latter retired her role as the guardian of the forest. As a result, Leaf has taken over Mother Nature's role, though she is younger than one might expect.
Leaf is supposed to be a nature guardian, though she is still learning how to be a great one, still being an in-trained one. She also controls the weather, as revealed in "Leaf's Under The Weather".
Personality[]
Leaf is somewhat flighty. She is also very cheerful, energetic, and clumsy, accidentally falling for Gargamel's traps and nearly loses her wand in "The Yummyus Pie" and drops several things easily.
Leaf shares the manners of the Smurfs to Papa Smurf's surprise. She reveals to the other Smurfs that she just wants to be herself since everyone is having such high expectations.
She is very friendly and is perfectly willing to help those when needed, such as "The Talented Justa Smurf", where she tries to bring out the personality in Justa and helps him save the Smurfs from Gargamel. In "Gargamel Goes Gaga", she tries to help Hefty impress Smurfette with romantic words and chocolates.
Leaf sometimes has a short attention span, going from greeting Papa Smurf in "Manners Matter" to finding the village houses colorful and nice to look at. In "Happy Smurfs Fools Day!", she ignores the bear that she was trying to take a cavity out of and puts her attention on Jokey, who wants to talk to her.
Leaf has a competitive side, as shown in "The Sarsaparillo Run", where she is seen competing against Papa Smurf, Willow, Gargamel, and Mummy for the Sarsaparillo, a plant that only grows every 100 years. Leaf in particular deliberately runs over Papa Smurf and Willow by turning into a bunny to get the sarsaparillo plant, though later, when they find out that the sarsaparillo is blue, she transforms into a bunny and calls Papa Smurf "Grandpa".
Though she does not show this often, Leaf appears to possess a decent amount of knowledge on romance, helping Hefty with his poem in "Gargamel Goes Gaga" and sighs happily when Smurfette kisses Hefty.
Appearance[]
Leaf has green eyes, reddish-orange hair, and a freckled, lightly tanned complexion. She is barefoot, and her attire consists of a green, leaf-textured dress with two matching half-circle bands on her upper arms. Leaf's hair is decorated with flowers, and has a ponytail held in place by a green hair tie at the back. Additionally, she sometimes carries a wand resembling a pointed, medium-sized twig.
Abilities[]
As a Nature Fairy, Leaf possesses several magical abilities, though she is still learning how to use them properly. She has demonstrated the ability to shape-shift into a small animal, such as a butterfly or a spider (which is also how she gets into the village without causing a ruckus) and was able to levitate Handy's ladder - though she had difficulties when attempting to put it down.
She can transform other things into animals as well, though she has trouble transforming them to what they need to be. An example is "Wild Gets Tamed", in which she accidentally makes Lily a mushroom and a spider before transforming into a lizard.
Relationships with Others[]
The Smurfs[]
In General[]
In her debut episode, Leaf is shown to like the Smurfs, immediately wanting to meet all of them. She is a close ally to the Smurfs and can save them from Gargamel occasionally.
Papa Smurf[]
Of all of the Smurfs, Leaf has the closest relationship with Papa Smurf. The latter is the first to welcome her to the village in "Manners Matter" and he, Doctor, and Willow help her when she gets sick in "Leaf's Under The Weather".
Papa Smurf is now considered one of Leaf's closest friends. When Leaf gets sick in "Leaf's Under The Weather", she flies to the village and wants to ask Papa Smurf if he can help her.
However, once in "The Sarsaparillo Run", she competes against Papa Smurf and Willow to get the magic sarsaparillo plant first. Leaf also calls Papa Smurf "Grandpa" to bug him.
Jokey Smurf[]
Jokey is implied to like her, as he gives her a large flower and smiles in a lovesick way in "Manners Matter". Jokey helps her out when needed, attempting to save her from a now-lovesick Gargamel in "Gargamel Goes Gaga". As one of his plans, Jokey transforms her into a dirty "Wilted Leaf".
In "Happy Smurfs Fools Day!", she encourages him to celebrate Smurfs' Fools Day by showing the Smurfs who "stole" his jokes that the classics work best. Though initially thinking Leaf is strange for saying that, Jokey later takes this advice and comes up with a dozen mini fireworks in a gigantic box. Jokey subsequently uses this gift on Gargamel after he captures the other Smurfs.
Farmer Smurf[]
Another Smurf Leaf has shown great friendship to is Farmer. Leaf trusts him with her magic wand in "Leaf's Under The Weather" when she gets sick and later, she thanks him for the broth that cured her and offers to boost the pumpkin growth in his fields, though he declines.
Farmer trusts Leaf to a great extent, trusting her to fix the accidentally rotted plants in "The Yummyus Pie".
Justa Smurf[]
Upon meeting Justa in "The Talented Justa Smurf", Leaf finds his quest to find a name upsetting and decides to help him. Later, when the Smurfs are attacked by Gargamel, Justa gets Leaf to become a stork who imitates his mother's voice, telling him to go to his hovel, resulting in Gargamel falling off a cliff.
The Smurfs cheer for Leaf and Justa, and later, Leaf comes up with Justa's new name "Mimic" and laughs at Mimic's imitations of the other Smurfs.
Hefty Smurf[]
A close Smurf friend of Leaf is Hefty. In "Gargamel Goes Gaga", Leaf finds Hefty's poem to Smurfette sweet and comforts him when Hefty messes it up while saying it to Smurfette. Soon, Hefty and Jokey try to help Leaf when she is trying to fight off a now lovesick Gargamel.
At the end of the episode where Smurfette kisses Hefty for the chocolates he made, Leaf sighs at love.
Gargamel[]
Like the Smurfs, Gargamel is an enemy of Leaf. However, she does not seem to get as scared as they do, likely due to the fact that they are the same size and have similar magic abilities. Despite this, Gargamel will go to great lengths to steal her wand, as shown in "The Yummyus Pie" and "Leaf's Under The Weather".
In "Gargamel Goes Gaga", when Gargamel accidentally eats a small cake absorbed with a love potion, he falls in love with Leaf. She does not reciprocate the feelings and tries to get away from him.
Mother Nature[]
Leaf is particularly close to Mother Nature, since she is a descendant of her and mentions several memories of her.
Leaf is often unsure of the things she does (such as the Spring Celebration with the Smurfs) because of high expectations from Mother Nature, but Papa Smurf reassures her that Mother Nature would love it.
Bigmouth[]
In Leaf's first interaction with Bigmouth in "An Unsmurfy Friendship", she found him to be annoying and too loud for both her and her animal friends.
Others[]
Leaf is close to the forest animals, as she is seen playing with them in "An Unsmurfy Friendship". She also bases her transformations on the animals she turns into, such as bunnies and storks.
