Synopsis[]
When the sarsaparilla harvest is ruined by a pest, the Smurfs discover Gargamel's plan to lure them to his field.
Summary[]
In Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard is happy as he has come up with the idea of stealing sarsaparilla in an attempt to lure the Smurfs into his field with the disappearance of the food. He explains to Azrael that he put sarsaparilla in a pot, then caterpillars will devour it. They later go to the sarsaparilla field, and they use the caterpillars to eat every last bit of sarsaparilla there is.
In the morning, Chef, Greedy, and two other Smurfs go into the forest to collect the fresh batch of sarsaparilla - only to figure out that it is missing. After looking everywhere, they notice all the sarsaparilla had been taken.
Chef goes to warn Papa Smurf the bad news as the other Smurfs hear there is no more sarsaparilla. Chef tells him that there was only one sarsaparilla leaf in the whole forest. Papa Smurf suggests they can use blueberries, much to everyone's concern and dismay. While the Smurfs are worried, Gargamel is building his field for the sarsaparilla traps.
While Gargamel has the time of his life with his scheme, the Smurfs are mourning the sarsaparilla loss. Poet writes a poem about the sarsaparilla disappearing. Jokey unhappily gives a Smurf a gift before crying with him.
As Grouchy is also mourning, Lazy dreams about him being in a sarsaparilla feast, but when he tastes it, it turns out to be Brainy's foot. Elsewhere, Clumsy and Greedy are sacrificing Dimwitty to the "sarsaparilla spirits", to which Papa Smurf does not agree to, ordering all three to lunch. In lunch, three Smurfs are unhappy that Chef has been forced to make blueberries for the past three days and start chanting for sarsaparilla (as well as Chef). Their chanting stops, however, when Papa Smurf arrives on a stork with Hefty and Forgotten and says they will find who stole all the sarsaparilla. The four Smurfs cheer for them as they leave.
Meanwhile, Gargamel and Azrael wait for the Smurfs to search for their place. During the wait, Gargamel explains to Azrael that he put traps inside of the field, before getting hurt with one of the traps.
Back in the village, Jokey, Brainy, and Chef are sitting on a bench, believing they have lost their love of the things they normally do. Just then, they saw Greedy walk-in eating, so Jokey suspects that Greedy stole the sarsaparilla. He convinces Brainy and Chef as they stare at Greedy.
Papa Smurf, Hefty, and Forgotten are still looking for the sarsaparilla and they figure out it is in Gargamel's hovel. Gargamel sees the three Smurfs and thinks they're coming for the sarsaparilla but is dismayed and confused when they leave. Azrael, however, knows what going to happen.
In the village, Jokey, Brainy, and Chef are in Papa Smurf's lab and Greedy has been held hostage, believing he has stolen the sarsaparilla. Jokey then tickles Greedy and he reveals that he has a secret stash, but it's empty. Papa Smurf comes back wondering what's going on. He shrugs it off and tells the four Smurfs that the sarsaparilla is in Gargamel's hovel. He asks Chef to give him the one piece of sarsaparilla. After experimenting the way Gargamel did, he notices that it was Gargamel's plan to get them in his field, so he decides to make some Smurf carpentry.
Meanwhile in Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard is still waiting for the Smurfs to come to the sarsaparilla. He then hears sounds of yelling, believing they're Smurfs, but when he comes to look, they turn out to be the carpentry that Papa Smurf mentioned earlier. While Gargamel is bawling, Papa Smurf tells Jokey to open the box of caterpillars, who go inside the hovel. The Smurfs run into the sarsaparilla stash while the caterpillars inside the hovel cause Gargamel's chair to break and his shelf of books to fall on him.
As Chef does a victory dance, he warns the Smurfs not to eat the sarsaparilla, but they're already eating it anyway. He attempts to back it up with Papa Smurf, but he is eating it as well, saying "how dare you" and laughs.
Trivia[]
- The episode is very similar to the 1980s cartoon show episode "The Last Smurfberry", but sarsaparilla is used instead of smurfberries.
- This is the only episode of the 2021 cartoon show in which Smurfs don't like to eat blueberries.
- The footage of the Smurfs being shocked that there is no more sarsaparilla in the village reuses footage from "Who's Heftier?".
- This is the second episode in which no female characters appear. The first is "Joke's On You".
Goofs[]
- During the scene where Greedy and Clumsy chant "Grow, grow, sarsaparilla!" to sacrifice Dimwitty to the "sarsaparilla spirits", a Smurf with a much deeper voice can be heard with Greedy instead of Clumsy.
