"Monkey See, Monkey Do" is the fourty-fourth episode of Season 1 of the CGI TV series, The Smurfs.

Synopsis[]
The magic supply store has mixed up orders for Gargamel and Papa Smurf. Instead of trilobite powder, he receives a monkey. When Jokey and Dimwitty have fun with the monkey and are asked to bring it back, they keep it and dress Brainy up as the monkey.
Summary[]
In Papa Smurf's lab, Brainy assists the village leader until they hear the doorbell for Papa Smurf's trilobite powder package, to which he is delighted and Brainy gets it from the Stork who shows up on the doorstep. Brainy struggles holding it however, as the box keeps moving. Papa Smurf tells him to be careful, since trilobite is explosive. Brainy drops it, but Papa Smurf saves it. A monkey suddenly pops out of the box and hops out of the lab.
Papa Smurf and Brainy chase the monkey via Brainy's smurfway. Hefty attempts to get the monkey, but it ends up tricking him and he falls while they continue chasing it. The monkey also causes damage in Chef's kitchen, where Chef yells at him to bring back his cake. The cake is thrown onto Harmony's trumpet, to which Harmony blows it out and onto Handy, who walks away in annoyance. Papa Smurf and Brainy hear the sound of Jokey's box, where they go and see him and Dimwitty playing with the monkey. Both Smurfs like him and the two imitate him. Papa Smurf sees them and goes to ask the magic supply store what happened. He puts the two in charge of the monkey. Brainy wonders where the monkey was supposed to be delivered to but sees the three have ran off to have some fun. Brainy runs after them.
In Gargamel's hovel, Gargamel yells at his crystal ball, demanding to know where his monkey is. The crystal ball tells him to calm down. Gargamel continues yelling as he wants his Smurf-catching monkey. When he berates Azrael, the cat responds by removing a hook that was holding a cage and hitting him. Azrael laughs while the crystal ball says it didn't understand his screaming.
Meanwhile, the Monkey continues wreaking havoc with Jokey and Dimwitty, such as passing by various Smurfs who duck or almost bump into them, playing ring-around-the-rosy around an angry Smurf, and stealing Chef's waffles. The three also play jokes on each other, then Brainy, and then even Papa Smurf, who comes by to tell them he contacted the store, and it was a mix-up. Jokey and Dimwitty are sad and want to keep him, but Papa Smurf says somebody is expecting the monkey. Papa Smurf notices their sad faces, but there is nothing he can do now. The two go with Brainy to bring him to the forest.
The three are at the edge of the village, where Jokey, Dimwitty, and Monkey share tearful goodbyes. They are upset as Dimwitty asks if they could just send someone else back, to which Jokey gets an idea. He shares the idea with Dimwitty.
The two Smurfs put Brainy in a monkey costume as the intellect Smurf objects to this. Jokey does not care and he puts him in the box, saying he's gonna love this. Brainy asks them what Papa Smurf would say, to which Jokey says he doesn't have to know. He wraps him up in the box and they leave him at the edge of the village as they go to have some more fun with Monkey by disguising him as a Smurf.
"There you go, handsome!"
In Jokey's house, the two Smurfs have disguised Monkey as Baby Smurf and they all go to have some fun until Papa Smurf asks them if they sent the monkey back, to which the scene cuts to Brainy being carried by a stork. Jokey lies and says they did. Papa Smurf is glad they understand. He asks "Baby" if he is okay, and he looks different. Jokey says he's just a little hungry. Dimwitty offers him a waffle, but Papa Smurf stops him, noting that Baby isn't old enough to eat solid foods yet - until he sees "Baby" gulp down the waffle and loudly burps. Papa Smurf then asks where Brainy is, so Jokey says they have not, but Dimwitty claims he's in a box. Papa Smurf is questioning this until Jokey says he's inside reading his books. They go back into Jokey's house to change "Baby".
In Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard is happy that his monkey is here. Monkey Brainy opens the box, where he fears Gargamel and ends up doing a dance under the request of him. However, in the dance, he breaks his glasses. Gargamel calls him a "strange monkey" and names him "Bob". He claims he will love him.
Back in the village, Jokey, Dimwitty, and Monkey continue to have fun as they steal Farmer's tractor and go around the village and play. Papa Smurf asks two Smurfs if they have seen Brainy, to which they say no. He continues to look for Brainy while the three troublemakers pass around him every time. Papa Smurf sees "Baby" and Dimwitty playing on lampposts while Jokey claps. Monkey is about to fall and Jokey saves him. "Baby" kisses Papa Smurf on the lips and starts playing around with the two Smurfs. Just then, Smurfette walks by with the real Baby, who is covered in mud.
In the lab, Papa Smurf learns about how the two Smurfs replaced the monkey with Brainy and is mad at them for disobeying and lying to him. They go to the crystal ball, who tells them the package was sent to Gargamel, much to their surprise.
In Gargamel's hovel, the wizard gets to training "Bob" to capture Smurfs. He orders him to capture a Smurf doll, but he trips and falls because he can't see anything. Gargamel lets him try again and tells him to show Azrael what he can do. He takes the Smurf doll, much to Gargamel's delightfulness. "Bob" dances as Azrael is annoyed at him. The cat sees his tail has fallen off and he tries to warn Gargamel, but he dismisses it and kicks him out of the hovel. While he tells him to leave "Bob" alone, Papa Smurf, Jokey, Dimwitty, and Monkey go into the hovel as Gargamel closes it.
Gargamel orders "Bob" to get the various Smurf dolls into a small wheelbarrow he has set all over the table. Brainy has a hard time getting them since he still has no glasses. Papa Smurf tries to explain to Brainy what is happening, but instead ends up getting him into the wheelbarrow. He also gets Jokey in it while Dimwitty joins by choice. Gargamel sees the real Smurfs and Papa Smurf notices Brainy didn't recognize them, while Brainy in turn discovers one of the voices he hears is Papa Smurf. He hears "Bob" speak and discovers he is a Smurf as well.
Gargamel locks the four Smurfs in a cage and when he goes to make a potion, Papa Smurf notices his trilobite. Monkey arrives and he is the only who hasn't been caught. Papa Smurf tells Monkey to go get the vial, but he frees them using his tail. Papa Smurf calls him smart as Gargamel shows "Bob" how to make a potion - except "Bob", as well as the three other Smurfs disappeared, and they leave out the window with Monkey. Papa Smurf throws the trilobite potion in the pot, causing it to massively explode in the hovel as Gargamel commands Azrael to get his face out of the pot, though Azrael just laughs.
Back in the village, Papa Smurf's lab, the village leader is being assisted like Brainy was doing. Papa Smurf considers him as a permanent assistant, much to Brainy's freaking out - or maybe not, since Monkey still goofs off.
Trivia[]
- The French title (Malin comme un singe) translates to the literal definition “Clever as a Monkey”.
- The scene where Jokey, Dimwitty, and Monkey drive around Farmer's tractor features their perspective. This particular scene was Scaredy's perspective, repeated from "My Smurf The Hero".
- The pan of the village in the beginning is repeated footage from "Who Nose?".
- This repeated footage causes an error, as Jokey can be seen, but he later appears in Papa Smurf's lab.
Goofs[]
- When Jokey says "This monkey's pretty smurfy!", the closed captioning refers to the dialogue as "This monkey's pretty surfy!".
