A mouse is a small mammal belonging to the order of rodents, characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears, and a long naked or almost hairless tail. The best known mouse species is the common house mouse (Mus musculus). It is also a popular pet. In some places, certain kinds of field mice are also common. They are known to invade homes for food and occasionally shelter.
In mainstream Smurfs media, mice appear as both regular animals and sentient beings. Smurfette had owned a pet mouse named Squeaky, who lived for a short time until he helped save Papa Smurf's laboratory from being burned up in a fire. As far as size, a mouse to a Smurf would be like a medium-sized dog to a human.
Mice have often appeared in Gargamel's castle. In fact, Gargamel often scolds Azrael for not catching mice and further labels him worthless. Gargamel used a mouse to experiment on his duplication device in "Smurfiplication" before using it on Brainy Smurf.
During the Smurfs' time-traveling adventures, they encountered a sentient group of mice in Japan. In "Karate Clumsy", the first episode with the mice, Clumsy learns about karate from Mouse Master in order to save the Smurfs and mice and defeat the evil Ninja Rat who captured the mice and the Smurfs. In the following episode "Papa's Big Snooze", the mice also appear in the beginning to tell the Smurfs what to do to make Papa Smurf wake up after bitten by a slumber bug.
In another of Peyo's creations, Pussycat, a mouse always appears which Pussycat attempts to capture.
Trivia[]
- Mice in the Smurfs cartoon series would have different fur. Squeaky's fur was brown which is common in field mice, while the mice invading Gargamel's castle would have grey fur which is common in 'house mice.'
