Synopsis[]
An accident in Papa Smurf's lab causes him to switch bodies with a sparrow.
Summary[]
A sparrow goes around the village causing trouble while trying to get a caterpillar, including tipping over the ladder that a Smurf was using to dust a house. It passes by Grouchy, who says he doesn't like birds.
Elsewhere, Brainy helps Papa Smurf as he is making a potion to cure his sore throat. Brainy is talking endlessly, however, annoying Papa Smurf and he forces him to take the potion he gave him back, as it was a body switching potion instead of a voice loss potion. As Brainy is about to put it back, a sparrow runs into the lab, continuing to chase the caterpillar. The caterpillar jumps on Brainy, which causes him to shriek and drop the body swapping potion. The sparrow hits Papa Smurf, causing them to fall and it makes them switch bodies. Brainy shoos away the caterpillar and the sparrow, unaware that the sparrow is Papa Smurf. Brainy turns around to see the sparrow Papa Smurf, who is hitting his head on his table and behaving like a bird, pecking the ground. Brainy says that Papa Smurf is acting weird as he begins hopping around and believes Papa Smurf thinks he's a bird. The sparrow Papa Smurf continues to try to explain to Brainy, but he doesn't listen (particularly because Papa Smurf still doesn't have his voice back) and proceeds to shoo him away. However, the sparrow Papa Smurf tries to smack some sense into him, including hitting him with a picture that will hopefully make him realize. Brainy sees this as disrespect and chases him out of the lab.
The Papa Smurf sparrow tries to escape the lab, but Brainy tries to shove him back in. Smurfette and Dimwitty come by and see the Papa Smurf sparrow's bird-like tendencies and Dimwitty thinks that Papa Smurf is trying to fly. Brainy catches him and brings him back into the lab. However, he shoos the sparrow Papa Smurf, who continues to fail to explain that it's him.
Brainy tries to find the potion Papa Smurf was trying to find in a book but finds it difficult with Papa Smurf messing around in the lab. Smurfette and Dimwitty observe, with Dimwitty in particular enjoying the mysteriously changed Papa Smurf. He imitates being a bird with the actual bird-Papa Smurf and pecks Smurfette, who is worried that Dimwitty has gone cuckoo as he pecks her and plays with the sparrow Papa Smurf.
The Papa Smurf sparrow watches and finds a way to crawl back into the lab. He finds it difficult, though, as his plan involves flying, which the sparrow is not capable of doing. He then hops up onto a Smurf house, but then finds Handy, who yells at him to be careful over wet paint. The Papa Smurf sparrow hits Handy with his paintbrush as he finds him a "strange bird" who cannot fly, which the Papa Smurf sparrow demonstrates when he tries to fly to the lab telescope. The Papa Smurf sparrow then finds a ladder and gets a new idea.
In the lab, the sparrow Papa Smurf and Dimwitty continue playing with each other as Brainy continues to search for a potion for a lost voice. He finds no luck as things continue to get worse. Smurfette then recommends getting Willow, but Brainy declines, saying that it would be humiliating for Willow to see Papa Smurf like this. Just then, they see the sparrow Papa Smurf and Dimwitty preparing to fly down. Brainy catches the sparrow but Dimwitty is left to fall. Brainy yells at Papa Smurf, but then quivers and immediately apologizes. The sparrow Papa Smurf continues to hop around and tries to open the door. Brainy reluctantly gives in and decides to get Willow.
The Papa Smurf sparrow continues his second plan and gets a large rock to propel himself into the lab but finds himself flying away from the lab and crashes.
As the Papa Smurf sparrow lies on the ground, Doc Smurf comes to the rescue and checks his body. Doc begins to get ready to take drastic measures until he settles on feeding him a tonic. The Papa Smurf sparrow begins yelling at Doc, but he ends up screaming and running away, believing that a bird swallowed Papa Smurf.
The Papa Smurf sparrow is thankful for having his voice back and proceeds to think of other ways to get into the lab but finds himself as a romantic interest for another sparrow. He tries to politely get her away, but the female sparrow continues to fawn over him, but he leaves, bothered. At the worst possible time, the female sparrow's husband catches this and begins rambling at the Papa Smurf sparrow, who tries to escape his wrath.
In the lab, the Smurfs watch as Willow is going to use a couple of remedies to cure the sparrow Papa Smurf. She feeds him a couple of petals, which causes the sparrow Papa Smurf to make several animal noises. Willow drinks a translation potion so she can understand him. Through communication, Willow translates that the sparrow Papa Smurf loves pumpkin seeds and the Smurfs feed it to him. Willow also translates that the sparrow Papa Smurf realizes he has a "blueberry face" which is what he called Smurfette. Willow then realizes that Papa Smurf is a bird. Brainy is upset at this realization, as he chased the real Papa Smurf sparrow away.
The Papa Smurf sparrow, meanwhile, is still being chased by the husband sparrow. After a long chase, he ends up losing him, but the Papa Smurf sparrow gets found by Bigmouth, who adores him when he tells him he can make music and takes him into his house.
The four Smurfs and the Papa Smurf sparrow leave Papa Smurf's lab, with Willow saying they'll find Papa Smurf by taking to the sky. The Smurfs search on storks. Brainy is worried and terrified about the possibilities of the fate of Papa Smurf, but Smurfette berates him for it and says nobody's going to eat his "precious Papa Smurf". The Smurfs then come across a couple of birds, who tell Willow that Bigmouth the ogre took him.
In Bigmouth's house, the sparrow Papa Smurf sings songs for Bigmouth, in hopes of the ogre falling asleep. Bigmouth ends up falling asleep, but the sparrow Papa Smurf is still stuck. The four Smurfs and the Papa Smurf sparrow come to the rescue, while trying not to make any noise. Smurfette and Willow contemplate on how they can perform the body swap without Bigmouth waking up. However, Bigmouth sleep-talks and waves his arms around, causing everybody and the potion to crash and everyone swaps bodies.
Now, Bigmouth is in Smurfette's body, the sparrow is Bigmouth, Brainy is the sparrow, Papa Smurf is Willow, Willow is Dimwitty, Dimwitty is in Papa Smurf's body, and Smurfette is in Brainy's body. The Smurfs, Bigmouth, and the sparrow cause chaos around until Willow/Dimwitty takes the potion and throws it into the air so it can crash. The Smurfs are now in their correct bodies again and the five Smurfs run back into the village. However, Bigmouth's body is being inhabited by a caterpillar, while Bigmouth himself is a caterpillar, who finds himself as a sparrow's snack!
