Summary[]
Three Smurfs arrive on a smurfmobile and pick up some trash. Just then, Brainy goes by on his smurfway to tell them that they missed a spot. The three Smurfs are annoyed at Brainy as usual, but one of the Smurfs sees Papa Smurf and dreams about being the boss for once. He then gets an idea.
The generic Smurf asks Vanity about a makeover to make him look like Papa Smurf. He observes his facial features and sees a lack of prettiness. The Smurf tells Vanity that he wants to look like Papa Smurf. Vanity sees the bad in this and believes it's just shenanigans. The Smurf denies this and says it's for real. Vanity still refuses unless it requires talent. The Smurf tells Vanity that he is the only one talented enough. Vanity is touched and agrees to the makeover.
In Vanity's house, he uses his makeup for the generic Smurf to look exactly like Papa Smurf. It's a success.
When the real Papa Smurf leaves out of his lab, Vanity and the fake Papa Smurf observe, and Vanity pushes him out into the world. Just then, he is accidentally hit by a ball from a Smurf, and he immediately apologizes. Fake Papa Smurf asks if his face is fine, and the Smurf says he looks fine. Fake Papa Smurf says this is good and tells him not to hit him with the ball again. The Smurf leaves as the generic Smurf is happy because the Smurf mistook him for Papa Smurf. He runs off to do some more fooling while Vanity chases after him.
The fake Papa Smurf tells Chef that he wants an egg parmesan pie, but Chef told him that the real Papa Smurf ordered raspberry muffins earlier. The fake Papa Smurf tells him that he changed his mind, and he should get to it now. Chef obeys and leaves. The fake Papa Smurf also tells two Smurfs to give him his sarsaparilla juice and some cakes, tells them to do some push-ups, and also tells two Smurfs who had previously been ordered by the real Papa Smurf to paint a house blue, yellow. The fake Papa Smurf and Vanity leave.
The real Papa Smurf comes by and undoes all of the fake Papa Smurf's wrongdoings, such as making Chef make the muffins again and telling the two painting Smurfs to make the house blue again.
Meanwhile, Clumsy and Dimwitty are fighting and the fake Papa Smurf asks what the problem. Clumsy tells him Dimwitty won't let him drive the fire truck because he doesn't know how to drive. Fake Papa Smurf says everyone should have a chance, so he allows Clumsy to drive. He is excited, but then trips. Vanity tells the fake Papa Smurf he can't keep causing chaos around the village.
Fake Papa Smurf un-does the changes Papa Smurf did once again by telling him to make the parmesan pie. Chef is getting more agitated and when Brainy asks him if he's done with the muffins, he gets mad and sweeps up all the muffins, saying he is figuratively done with them. Chef believes either Papa Smurf has horrible taste, or he's been bewitched by Gargamel. Just then, Clumsy and Dimwitty are driving around the village, passing by various Smurfs who run away from them. Clumsy is revealed to have been driving backwards and they end up hitting Brainy and Chef, who crash down with various muffins. Clumsy and Dimwitty get up as Brainy demands to Clumsy who told him to drive. He tells him "Papa Smurf" did, much to Brainy's confusion.
Meanwhile, Vanity and the fake Papa Smurf are behind the smurfmobile as Vanity tells him this charade has to stop. Fake Papa Smurf declines, saying he has an entire day as the village leader. Brainy comes by and tells him it wasn't a good idea to let Clumsy drive the fire truck. The fake Papa Smurf is annoyed and tells him to pick up one of the trash bags sitting around and put it in the smurfmobile. Brainy picks it up and is about to put it in, but the fake Papa Smurf dumps him in the garbage with the bags. Brainy comes to the conclusion that Papa Smurf is under a spell.
Brainy goes into Papa Smurf's laboratory and uses a "spell" to make him go back to normal. While Hefty safely turns the fire truck over, the real Papa Smurf asks Clumsy who told him to drive and Clumsy tells him that he had already. Just then, Chef finishes the parmesan pie for dessert. When Papa Smurf tells him he asked for the muffins, Chef falls down. Brainy comes along and gives Papa Smurf a drink...
Except the drink is a crazy potion which causes Papa Smurf to be extremely hyperactive. He takes Brainy's smurfway and drives it around Vanity and the fake Papa Smurf. Brainy follows the hyperactive Papa Smurf and Vanity asks what happened. Brainy tells him he found an antidote to "break the spell". Brainy suddenly sees the fake Papa Smurf and misinterprets him as the real one, but Vanity says they'll explain later, and they have to catch the real Papa Smurf.
The three drive on the garbage filled smurfmobile into the Smurf Forest as Vanity says he prefers the fire truck. The real Papa Smurf, who is still hyperactive, ends up finding himself caught and taken by Gargamel, who tells him to stop wiggling. The three Smurfs observe.

In Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard cackles, but when he dumps Papa Smurf out of his basket, he starts acting hyperactive again as Gargamel wonders if everything is okay. Papa Smurf bites his finger and runs around the hovel. Brainy, Vanity, and the generic Smurf watch and Brainy asks what the plan is. The Smurf doesn't know, but Vanity tells him now is his chance to be the boss.
In the hovel, the crazy Papa Smurf runs around as Gargamel chases him and messes with him, such as playing near his ear. He covers both of his ears and ends up coming from his nose and then his butt. Gargamel then sees the fake Papa Smurf, which he confuses as two Papa Smurfs. The fake one takes the real one's hand as they run away from a dazed Gargamel, though the real Papa Smurf is still hyperactive. The two Smurfs hit Gargamel with various objects and bottles. Brainy and Vanity come in the hovel and use the smurfmobile to cover Gargamel's fall. The two Papa Smurfs get on while leaving Gargamel behind. The wizard chases after the four Smurfs by using his hands as wheels.
The four Smurfs are chased around the outside of the hovel while Gargamel is right behind them. Gargamel is about to catch them, but then, he drives off a cliff and falls.
Back in the village, Papa Smurf is recovering from his hyper activeness as the generic Smurf apologizes for the wrongdoings he has caused and says he just wanted to be important. Papa Smurf tells him he should be perfectly happy with who he is and that everyone in the village has a part to play and nobody is more important than anyone else. Those cheers up the Smurf and the other generic Smurfs say they've never thought of it that way. The other Smurfs are happy to know their important - even Brainy, who ends up getting thrown elsewhere in the village as everyone laughs.
Trivia[]
- This is the eighth episode in which no female characters appear. The first seven are "Joke's On You", "Leaf It Alone", "Adventures In Smurfsitting", "The Curse Of The Smurfs' Treasure", "Pop Out!", "Forget Me What?", and "Order Of Merit".
- The ordinary Smurf that is the main character of the episode is voiced by Luke Calzonetti in the English dub and Anna Ramade in the French dub.
- This episode marks Luke Calzonetti's first voice role in the series before becoming a permanent member of the cast in Season 2 as the voice of Wild Smurf.
- Clumsy is shown to be inept on driving the truck, despite doing it in various other episodes before this. This is likely a continuity error or this episode took place before the previous episodes.
- This is the second episode of the series to have Papa Smurf's name in the title. The first was "Where's Papa Smurf?".
- The scene where Clumsy and Dimwitty pass by various Smurfs and them ducking in the process reuses footage from "Monkey See, Monkey Do".
- When three Smurfs run away from the fire truck, they have the same poses as "Adventures In Smurfsitting", complete with a Smurf (in place of Brainy) hiding under the bench.
- On the smurfway, Papa Smurf does a flip with his head, which is similar to Brainy doing it on the smurfway in "Smurfboards".
- The tune that Papa Smurf sings at one point in Gargamel's hovel is "I Don't Know, But I've Been Told", which is a sergeant song.
