A raven is a bird of prey and one is owned by Lord Balthazar in mainstream Smurfs media which he keeps as his personal pet. In the cartoon show episode "Papa's Wedding Day", Balthazar's pet raven watched over Flowerbell the woodnymph to make sure that she keeps to her mission of capturing the wisest Smurf. Count Gregorian was cursed with the head of a raven, and had a flock of them at his beck and call in the cartoon show episode "The Raven Wizard".
