Synopsis[]

Smoogle must sing the happiness song to make everyone who heard Chlorhydris' raven of unhappiness happy again.

Plot Summary[]

It's spring in the forest, and a bird, called the Bluebird of Happiness, is singing while being seen by Clumsy and Poet who return to the village. However, at Chlorhydris' castle, the evil sorceress who is cutting the flowers from her moss-covered balcony says that she hates spring. When she hears the song of the Bluebird, she then goes to her magic laboratory to find a way to deal with the Bluebird's song of happiness.

At the village, as everyone is spring cleaning, they see the Bluebird of Happiness, who comes to the village. Grouchy leaves, saying that he hates Spring Cleaning Day. Smoogle comes along mimicking Grouchy's sneezing in an attempt to cheer Grouchy up, but Hefty tells Smoogle that no Smurf ever cheered up Grouchy. Smoogle then mimics the animals' calls, but it doesn't work on Grouchy. Smoogle hears the Bluebird's song and gets an idea. However, Chlorhydris with her toucan combing the forest, searching for the Bluebird, which she finds and attempts to capture so she can eliminate the Bluebird's happy singing.

Nearby, Smoogle mimics the Bluebird's singing, but it still doesn't cheer Grouchy up. The Bluebird comes by and sings, which makes the Smoogle sing along with the Bluebird. It starts to work on Grouchy; however, he sees Chlorhydris capturing the Bluebird and Smoogle. Grouchy comes to help, but the toucan smacks Grouchy into a pond to keep him from interfering while Chlorhydris then places the Bluebird and Smoogle in separate cages.

Grouchy gets back and witnesses Chlorhydris holding a glass tube producing smoke while incanting a spell on the Bluebird, turning it into the Raven of Unhappiness, whose singing causes anyone who hears it to become miserable. Grouchy then runs to the village to warn the other Smurfs. Unfortunately, the village Smurfs are already affected when they hear the Raven's singing just as Grouchy arrives. Grouchy then tries to tell everyone that about what happened, but no one listens. Feeling helpless, Grouchy then has an idea. As the affected Smurfs unhappily argue, Grouchy screams that he hates the way all of the other Smurfs are acting, who then chase Grouchy.

At Chlorhydris' castle, the evil sorceress watches the forest animals argue via telescope, and she sees a group of Smurfs chasing Grouchy. She then tasks her toucan to capture a few of them. Grouchy gets exhausted while drawing the other Smurfs toward Chlorhydris' castle, but they are all captured by the toucan, except for Grouchy who managed to climb up the castle. Smoogle sees Grouchy and mimics the Bluebird's original song of happiness. Just as Grouchy is about to get the key to free Smoogle, he hides as Chlorhydris comes with a cage of Smurfs and uses a cloth to keep Smoogle from singing the Bluebird's song, which can restore the Bluebird back to normal. Before leaving, Chlorhydris opens a metal cage containing a giant rat in case Smoogle or the Smurfs attempt to escape.

The captive Smurfs despair at the situation, that they won't hear Smoogle mimicking the Bluebird's song. Grouchy comes out of hiding and gets the key, removing the cloth from Smoogle's mouth. The rat, however, hinders the escape by chasing Grouchy. Smoogle then mimics the Bluebird's song, restoring the captive Smurfs. Just as the Raven caws at Smoogle and Grouchy when they are cornered, Papa Smurf encourages Smoogle to keep singing, which he does, but louder, reversing the spell, turning the Raven back to the Bluebird. The Bluebird in turn sings, making the rat calm and nuzzling Grouchy. As the captive Smurfs apologize for what happened, Grouchy, who already freed Smoogle, frees the captive Smurfs from the cage. However, Chlorhydris returns with a glass tube with the intent on turning the Bluebird back to the Raven again. Smoogle then becomes a ball and trips Chlorhydris, causing her to fall on her toucan, drop the formula, and have a cage fall upon her head. Papa Smurf grabs the formula as he, the Bluebird, and the Smurfs escape. Chlorhydris orders her toucan to pursue them, who wants the sorceress to get off of him.

Back in the village, the Bluebird is singing happily as Painter says that they've never been happier thanks to Smoogle. Papa Smurf then thanks Grouchy for saving them from becoming sorrowful Smurfs. Grouchy then leaves while Smoogle imitates him. Grouchy then looks around and happily pats Smoogle's head.
