The Smurf Girls are a group of Smurfs who are main characters of the 2021 TV series, Smurfs: The Lost Village and the Girls' Village Collection comic books.

They are the female counterparts of the inhabitants of Smurf Village. They first appear in the film Smurfs: The Lost Village. They lived in a place called Smurfy Grove, a lush village which is located in the Forbidden Forest and are led by a village leader named Smurfwillow.

Appearance

The Smurf Girls are mostly identical to each other in that they each have dark blue hair (which they wear in many different hairstyle variations) and wear sand-colored hats, dresses, and shoes, except for Willow, who just like Papa Smurf, has white hair and wears a red hat and red pants. Most of they have flowers or four-leaf clovers on the left side or right side of their hats, other accessories most of they wear are light brown vests and short ponchos, short ponchos made out of small green leaves and necklaces and bracelets (both made with small colorful stones). The Smurf Girls disguise themselves with leaves to make their appearance fearsome to those who would invade their village, and to hide themselves from those who would seek them. Another technique to scare hunters of them is dressing up in a big dragon costume, with a group of girls inside it, to look like a predator animal.

In the 2021 series, generic Smurf Girls are made up of existing character assets (namely, Storm's hairstyle and Begonia's dress). In particular, most of them use Begonia's character design, though the lily flower is removed.

Character

Whereas Smurfette has always been the only female living among the Smurfs, they’ve recently discovered a whole new tribe of girls. They live in a heretofore lost village, Smurfy Grove, far away on the other side of the forest. (We will refer to Smurfy Grove, but viewers will actually not see it.)

Of course, even though this village was unknown to the male Smurfs for the longest time, the girls never felt the least bit “lost”. They are perfectly self-sufficient and were doing just fine in their own little universe.

However, now that the two worlds are aware of each other, they are friendly and respectful, helping each other when they can, and spending social time together. The Smurfs sometimes ask the female Smurfs to come help with a situation, and the girls are generally happy to comply.

The girls are wild, inventive, and very physical, with their own strange rituals: competing against each other on stick horses, foot wrestling, playing mud football, playing symphonies in an air orchestra, etc. This surprising quality means that the girls are experts at bringing unlikely solutions to entangled situations.

General Intelligence

The general intelligence of a Smurf Girl seems to be much smarter than the average Smurf. They are most likely the ones to sense that danger is nearby, which is seen in episodes such as "Smurf Racers" and "Gargamel, Queen Of The Prom".

The one exception, however, is Begonia, who is the female counterpart of Dimwitty. She is usually the one Smurf Girl that will cause the most problems due to her obliviousness and her tendency to get distracted by everything.

History

Lost Village Version

The Smurfs first meet the Smurf Girls when Smurfette herself discovered one of them dressed in a disguise appearing on her side of the wall separating the Smurf Forest from the Forbidden Forest, though she didn't know that it was a Smurf Girl until she and her friends Brainy, Clumsy, and Hefty traveled through the Forbidden Forest to find out. However, the four Smurfs ended up leading Gargamel to Smurfy Grove, where he proceeded to capture all its inhabitants in addition to Papa Smurf and Smurfette's friends. Nonetheless, Smurfette risked her life to save both the Smurfs and the Smurf Girls, who in turn restored her to life when they brought her home to the Smurf Village to mourn for their loss. All both Smurfs and Smurf Girls celebrate together Smurfette's return to life in a massive dance party, uniting both villages.

Comic Book/2021 TV Series Version

Smurf Girls Village

The Girls' village as it appears in the 2021 series.

However, a raven sent by Gargamel to find the Smurf Village unintentionally finds its course to Smurfy Grove, where it proceeded to negatively influence almost all its inhabitants leading to the destruction of their village. Nonetheless, the Smurf Girls (with the help of other Smurfs from the Smurf Village) had relocated to a new village.

Trivia

  • Their Smurf hats are similar to that of Vanity's.
  • Unlike male Smurfs, who have their names defining personality traits/skills, most of the Smurf Girls have names derived from elements of nature, like plant species, gemstones, weather, or animal species, with "Smurf" used as a prefix. The only exception to this is Meteorite, which is based off of something that can be seen in the sky.
  • The Smurf Girls are unique in having been presented as having been naturally born rather than magically created, which was the case with previous female Smurfs --- Smurfette, Sassette, Mermaid Smurfette, and Vexy. Nanny Smurf, the only other female Smurf introduced in the original comics and 1981 animated series, has an unknown origin.
  • Like Smurfette, their tails are hidden under their undergarments. In some promotional media where they are seen with other clothes rather than dresses, their tails are seen.
  • The Smurf Girls are similar to the Amazons in ancient Greek mythology as they are a community of females who live independently without any male rulers.
  • When first meeting Smurfette and her friends, the Smurf Girls were all together in a big costume to look like a dragon. This is similar to the Dragon Dance tradition from Chinese culture.
  • In the early concept for Smurfs: The Lost Village, orange hair was considered for a couple of the Smurf Girls.
