The Smurf essence extractor was an invention Gargamel had created from various items and machines he had found in the basement of Belvedere Castle in New York City in the 2011 Smurfs movie. Its purpose was to create Smurf essence from anything that physically came from a Smurf. Originally Gargamel had created two small drops of Smurf essence from Smurfette's hair, but after he got his hands on the dragon wand from Mr. Wong's Mystical Emporium, he used shavings of Papa Smurf's beard to create more, and from that, he used the dragon wand to refashion the extractor into a full-blown Smurf exfoliator which he intended to use on all the Smurfs. Papa Smurf became Gargamel's first test subject of the exfoliator and would have been the first casuality if it weren't for Smurfette coming to his rescue.

This invention would later be followed by the Smurfalator in The Smurfs 2.
