Synopsis
Doing too much, Smurfette is very tired. To teach her the art of doing nothing, Papa Smurf entrusts her to the greatest specialist: Lazy.
Summary
It is a normal day in Smurf Village as Smurfette races around doing several chores for the Smurfs: adding the finishing touches on Chef's cake, pounding nails into Handy's table, helping Farmer with his vegetables, serving Greedy's dinner, and giving Sloppy a bath. Hefty calls Smurfette "fit as a fiddle" as she keeps bumping into him while doing these chores. Smurfette claims that life isn't worth living unless you live it to the fullest. She races back into her house, but she is quite beat from doing everything. Just then, Papa Smurf notices this and asks if Smurfette is okay. She says she's fine, though her eye twitches. Papa Smurf tells her there's no shame in being tired, something that she immediately dismisses... until she faints.
Smurfette later wakes from her sleep, with her finding herself in her bed while Papa Smurf is there. He explains to Smurfette that she got overworked and needed some rest. Smurfette protests this, claiming that the Smurfs need her and fears that she'll get old like him, but is too scared to finish the sentence, much to the anger of Papa Smurf. He then orders her to get some rest. Smurfette begrudgingly compromises.
As Papa Smurf walks out of her house, he contemplates about how Smurfette can just rest for a while. He comes in luck when he sees Lazy, the laziest Smurf known to all mankind, get his drink from his plate. Papa Smurf walks up to him to get his attention. When he calls out his name, it doesn't work, so he bangs two symbols together, which Lazy responds to. Papa Smurf asks him for a favor.
The two go into Smurfette's house while she practices Smurf-Fu and immediately runs back into bed. When they arrive, Papa Smurf informs Smurfette that Lazy is going to teach her his specialty: sleeping, which Lazy is already demonstrating. Just then, the village leader walks out of Smurfette's house, hearing his stork as it waits for him to arrive to his Magic Convention. When he closes the door, Smurfette groans as Lazy continues sleeping.
Later, Smurfette is out of the house practicing while Lazy is watching. She tells him that this is what life is about: speed. Lazy says that she can tire herself out by thinking like that. Smurfette practices slower and slower until she begins to enjoy the wind around her.
The two are now in the forest as Lazy and Smurfette walk slowly. Smurfette does not like walking slow and wants to speed up. Just then, a tree falls near them. They then relax on this tree while Lazy uses his foot to hit a rock, which hits a blueberry and he grabs it, telling Smurfette that using your feet is just as good as using your hands if they are short. Smurfette now understands the art of laziness and says that a happy life is doing nothing and will call new life "Idlesmurfism". Lazy falls asleep when hearing this and Smurfette follows his patterns of relaxing.
Back at the village, Handy asks Smurfette to do some hammering with him. Smurfette declines and says he should smurf it easy. As Handy doesn't want to relax, Smurfette responds by tripping him into a chair. Handy finds this very relaxing. Smurfette does the same to Hefty, who falls into his chair and relaxes.
Smurfette cues the Smurf Band to play music while she and her three other relaxing Smurfs drink. Two other Smurfs see this and follow suite. Then, Farmer sees the two Smurfs and relaxes as well, and soon, everyone relaxes, leaving the village in a less active place.
Papa Smurf returns from the convention, only to find several no talking signs. He also notices nobody doing their chores and snails that are not in their pen. Papa Smurf does not like this at all, but just then, he hears Brainy in a barrel. He explains that the Smurfs, namely Smurfette, have converted to "Idlesmurfism", something that confuses Papa Smurf and goes to the Village Bell with Brainy running after him.
The Village Bell is rung with all of the Smurfs slowly walking over. Papa Smurf initially calmly approaches his Smurfs, but then begins to yell at the Smurfs for their abandonment of chores in favor of relaxing. Smurfette reminds him that he previously said that sometimes you have to smurf a little less so you could smurf a little more. Papa Smurf is mad at Smurfette for quibbling with him, but his breaking point is when Smurfette comments about his age. He is angry until he sees Brainy and says they can go back to sleeping. Brainy is confused until Papa Smurf explains his plan.
Later, the Smurfs continue relaxing until they hear a loud noise. Scaredy fears this until Greedy informs him that this is likely his stomach. However, they hear the noise again, and Greedy knows that the noise wasn't his stomach. Scaredy worries that it's Bigmouth and Egghead and his fear comes true. The Smurfs now begin panicking around the village.
When Smurfette is warned about this, she fears and goes to Papa Smurf. Papa Smurf, however, relaxes, with no plans or potential potions to drive the ogres away. Smurfette gets more and more frustrated at his laziness until she realizes and yells that "Idlesmurfism" is a terrible idea. This catches the Smurfs' attention and Papa Smurf starts laughing, revealing that the ogres aren't there and Brainy ingested a drink that changes your voice. As he talks, bubbles release while Smurfette pops a few.
In the evening, Smurfette apologies for going too far. Papa Smurf tells her he understands that as both her biggest flaw and quality. Both Smurfette and Hefty say they have several things to catch up on, while Smurfette races around the village. Papa Smurf says Smurfette should learn to take a rest... as long as she does her chores first.
