Season 4, which aired from 1984 to 1985, introduced some new allies such as the Pussywillow Pixies and Smurfette's invisible horse friend Blue Eyes, as well as some new villains like the Wartmongers. The Season 4 intro sequence is the most recognizable of the nine season intro sequences due to its use (in shortened form) in the syndicated Smurfs Adventures show. The cartoon special "Smurfily Ever After" aired on televisions during the season's broadcast period on February 13th, 1985.
Predating the introduction of the Smurflings and many others, this season was the last to have dark elements shown in most of their episodes. Hanna-Barbera was forced to tone down the format of the series by NBC executives in the following season. It was also the last season to feature characters in prominent roles such as King Gerard and the Pussywillow Pixies.
