Synopsis[]
After breaking Papa Smurf's telescope, Scaredy and Hefty decide to dress up as girls and hide rather than face punishment.
Summary[]
Hefty is busy sweeping the dust underneath the table in Papa Smurf's laboratory while Scaredy is busy dusting off the big telescope. Hefty calls out Scaredy's name, which startles the young Smurf so much that he leaps, hits his head on the ceiling, and then lands on the telescope to roll down it. Scaredy thinks he's safe, so he whips the feather duster behind him, which ends up shaking the telescope so much that it cracks the lenses. Hefty goes into panic mode because Papa Smurf would soon return, and indeed Papa Smurf shows up to wonder what's going on. He goes up to the balcony where his telescope is located and notices the broken lenses, saying that this will ruin his chance to see the lunar eclipse. As Papa Smurf looks to see where Hefty and Scaredy have gone, the two of them are hiding out by hanging below the balcony, moving slightly to make sure Papa Smurf didn't see them. After Papa Smurf leaves, the two Smurfs wonder where they're going to hide until Papa Smurf calms down, and then they both see Smurfette hanging some dresses on a laundry line outside her house, and that gives them an idea.

As Papa Smurf and Brainy scour, the entire Smurf Village went to find the two Smurfs. Two other Smurfs, dressed in wigs, dresses, and slip-on shoes, emerge out in the open. They introduce themselves as Hefinia and Scarlett, two girl Smurfs that came from the girls' village, who said they couldn't help overhearing about two Smurfs who may have broken a telescope, and that their village leader may find it in his heart to forgive them.
Papa Smurf tells the two "girl Smurfs" that the longer those two Smurfs hide from him, the harsher their punishment is going to be. Then Smurfette appears and sees the "girl Smurfs" wearing her dresses, and she is about to point that out when Papa Smurf takes Smurfette aside and talks to her in private. As Hefty and Scaredy try to sneak away, Papa Smurf tells the two that Smurfette has promised to put them up for the night, an invitation that they both try to talk themselves out of accepting before they reluctantly do so.

When "Hefinia" and "Scarlett" were alone with Smurfette in her bedroom, Smurfette was preparing to undress when the two Smurfs confess that they aren't really girl Smurfs but were really Hefty and Scaredy hiding away from Papa Smurf. Smurfette told them she wasn't planning on telling on the two Smurfs, but rather would want to help them, because she could see how angry Papa Smurf was with the two Smurfs, and that their best way to escape is to hide away as girl Smurfs forever. Smurfette then puts Hefty and Scaredy through a training session to get them to act like girl Smurfs if they were going to hide away dressed like girls. Although there were some things that needed correction (such as Hefty's singing voice, which changed to a soprano when Smurfette stepped on Hefty's foot with her heel), the training succeeds, and Hefty and Scaredy are ready to go about the village as girl Smurfs.

When "Hefinia" and "Scarlett" meet with Papa Smurf at the dinner table, he wishes the two "girl Smurfs" good luck at the Iron Smurf Girls' Tournament, which makes them spit out their drinks, not realizing what kind of danger they put themselves into. Then Willow, Storm, and Lily show up, with the latter two talking to the "girl Smurfs" about how they're going to beat them at the Tournament. Both Hefty and Scaredy slip away from the table, saying that they need to get their "beauty sleep", and then start to run off, wondering how they're going to beat the real girl Smurfs at the Tournament.

On the day of the Tournament, Papa Smurf notices that "Hefinia" and "Scarlett" were wearing high heels and asks if they're going to go through the entire course wearing those, and "Hefinia" says that real girls always wear heels (which makes the real girl Smurfs, wearing flat-soled shoes, give them a quizzical look).
Willow explains the rules of the Tournament -- that the contestants must make it to the finish line without breaking their egg, because one drop and the contestant will have to start over. This makes the two "girl Smurfs" worry. After the race starts, Storm and Lily make it past the first obstacle with no problem, whereas "Hefinia" and "Scarlett" end up breaking their eggs trying to get past it. They start over and slide down the chute and again drop eggs when they try to hop across a patch of mushrooms. They start over again and get as far as the monkey bars before they drop their eggs again.
Hefty and Scaredy begin to get frustrated, so they decided to drop their disguises, reveal themselves, and accept whatever punishment Papa Smurf was willing to give them. The revelation, however, makes Papa Smurf and the others laugh, since Papa Smurf knew all along that those Smurfs were in disguise and they already took their punishment the entire time by going through all of this. Unfortunately, Dimwitty, whose heart was smitten by the appearance of one of the disguised Smurfs, was heartbroken to realize the truth.
Trivia[]
- This episode marks the debut of Willow, Storm (both in the English order), and Lily in the series.
- This is the first episode in which Grouchy does not appear in nor heard offscreen.
- Despite appearing for the second half of the episode, Lily only has one individual line in the episode: "You said it, Storm", though she says "Mm-hm" with Storm when Willow explains the challenge to them.
- This episode is similar to the episode of the '80s series "Smurfette For A Day" when Hefty disguises himself as Smurfette.
- Smurfette's outfits that Hefty and Scaredy wear throughout the episode use character assets from Blossom (though the dress Hefty wears is red and longer) and Lily (though the dress is a lighter shade of yellow and a brown vest).
- The place that the tournament takes place in is the same as "Who's Heftier?".
- This episode uses similar body movements to that episode:
- "Hefinia" (Hefty) trips on one of the rolling logs, referencing something that was done by Wimpy in that episode.
- "Scarlett" (Scaredy) avoids several moving logs and gets hit by one, also referencing something that was done by Wimpy.
- This episode uses similar body movements to that episode:
- In the UK, the episode is called "Some Like It Not", a reference to the 1959 American crime comedy film Some Like It Hot, where two men witness a mob hit and disguise as women.
- In Smurfette's house, she has a 2D design Smurf-Fu costume.
- It is unknown that the Iron Smurf Girls' Tournament is a real event or it recently made up by Papa Smurf and/or Smurfette as part of the disguised Hefty and Scaredy's secret punishment to make them confessed and inviting Willow, Storm and Lily to be part on it as well.
Goofs[]
- Smurfette's dress that Hefty disguised in was pink when he took it. However, when he wears it, it suddenly becomes red and stays like this for the rest of the episode.
- In the YouTube version, the title card reads "Some Like It Not."
