Synopsis[]

Gargamel disguises himself as Sorcerer Smurf in order to lead the Smurfs into his trap.

Plot Summary[]

Hefty, Greedy, and Lazy are out in the forest looking for Grouchy, whom Greedy said was right there with them. Hefty believes that Gargamel must have got him, and so they head to his house to look for Grouchy, but they don't see any sign of either the wizard or Grouchy inside. However, Gargamel does show up from behind to grab them, saying that he's found some Smurf spies who will soon become Smurf pies. Hefty asks the wizard where Grouchy is, and Gargamel answers that he hasn't seen that Smurf anywhere, for if he had, that Smurf would have been in his soup pot by now. Then Hefty tricks Gargamel to lean his face closer so he could sock him in the nose. This only makes Gargamel irritated as he takes his three captive Smurfs inside and put them in a cage where he prepares for their dinner date. Of course, Azrael is so full of hungry eyes just looking at the Smurfs that he doesn't notice his tail knocking a vial of chemicals into a cauldron of other chemicals, causing an explosion which propels the cage of Smurfs out the window, allowing them to run for safety. Gargamel at first scolds his cat for his carelessness, but seeing that his prey is gone, he tells Azrael that everything is going just as he has planned, so now they can move to the next phase in their plan to destroy the Smurfs.

Sorcerer Smurf 1

The first Sorcerer Smurf

Back in the Smurf Village, Papa Smurf is busy giving Grouchy a physical examination and then tells his patient that he will remain sick until he starts to cheer up. Then Hefty, Greedy, and Lazy arrive in his house to tell the village leader that Gargamel is up to something -- and whatever that "something" is, Hefty says that it's really big. Papa Smurf says that they will be ready for that something when it comes.

Near the outskirts of the village, Smurfette is holding her ears while Harmony attempts to serenade her with his singing voice. Harmony asks if it gives her a warm glow when Smurfette sees something in the forest that already has a "warm glow" -- a magic book that Smurfette says they should bring to Papa Smurf. She finds Papa Smurf at his house trying to tend to a window box full of dying flowers and hands him the book, from which he reads belongs to a Sorcerer Smurf. Nobody in the village has ever heard of Sorcerer Smurf, nor do they even believe there are any other Smurfs besides themselves. Nonetheless, Papa Smurf gives one of Sorcerer Smurf's incantations a try... and soon they see that it has revived the flowers in the window box. The Smurfs are so impressed by that Smurf's magic, they believe they should bring him to their village. Papa Smurf finds in the book directions to where Sorcerer Smurf lives, which is on top of the Mountain Of Mists. Papa Smurf says that it's a long journey to that mountain, so they must be prepared. As they go to prepare for the journey, they don't notice that the flowers in the window box have all died.

Through the forest and up the rocky incline of the mountain path, the Smurfs make their journey to the residence of the Sorcerer Smurf, with Papa Smurf constantly enduring his little Smurfs asking if it's much further. As they draw closer to his lair, Papa Smurf warns his Smurf to be aware because he senses danger. Then they see a Smurf bigger than themselves and appearing only in a dark shadowy form suddenly materialize on a throne, telling his visitors to come no further. He introduces himself as the great and powerful Sorcerer Smurf, and as Papa Smurf approaches the throne to say what he and his little Smurfs were doing there, Sorcerer Smurf causes his magic book to fly out of Papa Smurf's hands and into his own. He hears the other Smurfs gasp and tells them to come closer so he could see them. Papa Smurf suspects that there's a trap and tries to warn his little Smurfs not to come closer, but it is too late: a cage drops over them, holding them prisoner. Sorcerer Smurf reveals himself to be Gargamel, and now he wants his captured Smurfs to take him to their village or he will toast Papa Smurf with a certain spell that causes a flame to erupt while the village leader is held above a small crater pocket. Papa Smurf warns his little Smurfs not to give in to Gargamel's demands, but they would rather see Papa Smurf safe than harmed by the evil wizard and so concede to his demands.

Sorcerer Smurf 2

The second Sorcerer Smurf

On their way back down the mountain and toward the village, Gargamel and the Smurfs run into another Smurf appearing in shadow, this one claiming to be the true Sorcerer Smurf. Gargamel says there's no such thing as a Sorcerer Smurf because he made him up, but this Sorcerer Smurf is willing to prove he is real by using some magical dust to make the ground tremble... and so with a magic word, the ground trembles. Yet Gargamel is still not convinced, and so Sorcerer Smurf causes the ground underneath Gargamel to turn to quicksand, which impresses even Brainy to the point of saying that his magic is more powerful than Papa Smurf's. Still Gargamel isn't convinced of this Sorcerer Smurf being the genuine article, so he now causes the trees in the forest to come alive with glowing eyes, ready to do Sorcerer Smurf's bidding of driving the evil wizard away from the forest. This scares Gargamel to the point where he flees for his life along with his cat.

The Smurfs are so thankful for this Sorcerer Smurf appearing to rid them of Gargamel's presence, but they begin to wonder where Papa Smurf is because they need to rescue him. Sorcerer Smurf reveals himself to be Papa Smurf, showing that he is fine and that all the magic spells he was casting as Sorcerer Smurf was really the other Smurfs making the trees come alive and shaking the ground by pounding it with large boulders. Brainy says that he knew all along that it was Papa Smurf, which only earns him a flying boot to elsewhere in the forest.

Back in the village, Papa Smurf gives Grouchy another physical examination and realizes that his prescription of having his patient being happy for a change was only making him sicker, so he tells Grouchy he can go back to being his old self again. This makes Grouchy content enough to say, "I hate being happy.".
