Tailor's magic needle is an item that appeared in Smurfs cartoon show episode of the same name. Created by Tailor Smurf with the help of Brainy, the magic needle had the ability to sew up clothes and various items made of cloth simply by being summoned by a Smurf saying, "Sew, magic needle, sew, sew, sew; go, magic needle, go, go, go", and constantly sang "sew, sew, sew" as it did its work.
It was originally created to give Tailor a helping hand in creating new clothes for his fellow Smurfs to be shown at the spring pageant, but as more Smurfs turned to the magic needle instead of Tailor because it could sew up things faster than Tailor, he found himself being worked out of a job. It wasn't until Tailor noticed that the new diapers that the magic needle was sewing for Baby Smurf were becoming uncomfortable for the infant to wear that he decided that he no longer wanted the magic needle. However, in his attempt to change the magic needle back into an ordinary needle by reciting the spell that gave it life backwards, the needle instead turned red and started shrieking "needle, needle, needle" as it tortured the Smurfs by unsewing their clothes as well as their Smurf houses.
With the help of Papa Smurf, Tailor lured the now-malevolent magic needle into a haystack with a piece of cloth, where Papa Smurf cast a spell on the needle that rendered it lifeless again once it was inside the haystack.
