Synopsis[]
Dwayne finds Handy's jetpack in the forest and takes it to make his own. Handy must then put together a team to go get it from Gargamel, but the only Smurfs available are not the ones Handy was thinking of...
Summary[]
Handy is out in the forest with his jetpack, using it for a test run. He pushes one of its buttons, causing it to accelerate and send him flying around the air. He hits a tree, sending the jetpack elsewhere and causing him to spin around and crash. Handy finds this exciting, though he realizes the jetpack is missing.
Just then, Handy hears the sound of Gargamel and hides. He is with Dwayne, whose mother had told him to go with Gargamel for some "stimulating activities" but Dwayne does not find hunting for slugs very stimulating. Just then, he finds Handy's jetpack and finds it very cool. Gargamel finds it amazing as well, specifically because this means that Smurfs are around. Dwayne notices that this is a flying backpack and asks Gargamel to take it home so he can make a replica of it. Gargamel agrees to this, and when the two walk home, Handy finds this a problem and decides to get some help.
Handy goes back to the village and observes the Smurfs walking around. He brainstorms and finds people like Clumsy and Vanity to be too problematic. Just then, Blossom comes up to Handy, who tells her that he is trying to make a team for an undercover mission at Gargamel's (and specifically not Dimwitty, who walks past them with a bucket on his head). He wants the best of the best - Hefty, the muscle, Smurfette, the high-flyer, and Storm, the sharpshooter, and himself, the expert. Unfortunately, a big explosion occurs in Papa Smurf's lab and he calls for all three strong Smurfs… rendering them all unavailable.
Blossom tries to comfort a saddened Handy and offers to be a part of his team by imitating the three Smurfs, except she is considerably weaker, which drives Handy away a bit. She then offers to be the great ball of energy that motivates the troops (which she already does). Blossom then tries to find other Smurfs willing to participate. She comes across the teleporting Bubble, who upon asking, does not want to take part in any mission and says she will teleport when she wants. When she feels Blossom is being to annoying, she yells, causing her to teleport into a barrel. Blossom warns Handy not to get her too mad, but despite this, she can be "the un-grabbable". Bubble says that she is supposed to be taking care of Baby, which gives Blossom the idea to invite him on the team. When seeing Baby, she finds him too cute and names him "the unpredictable". Handy declines all three Smurfs, saying he needs a dream team, not chaos. This makes Baby begin crying.
Dwayne is at Gargamel's hovel building a giant jetpack. Gargamel then comes into the room, offering Dwayne multiple things as he imagines using this jetpack to fly to the village, being able to steal the Smurfs once and for all. His dream is interrupted by Dwayne, who tells him to get a socket wrench.
At nighttime back at the village, Handy has reassembled Blossom, Baby, and Bubble because it turns out these are the only Smurfs available. He illustrates the plan, though Blossom and Bubble find this a bit more complicated. While Baby crawls around, Handy continues demonstrating his plan as the two other Smurfs are confused. Just then, they noticed Baby has disappeared - and it turns out he is about to touch Handy's barrels. Bubble teleports to stop him, but she teleports on a barrel and makes everything in Handy's workshop crash. He lets the three Smurfs get some rest since they will go get the jetpack first thing in the morning. As they leave, Handy doubts at the idea of this "dream team" and believes he could just get the jetpack himself… which gives him an idea. Handy decides to quietly sneak out of his house, something that catches the attention of Bubble.
He successfully walks to Gargamel's hovel and uses suction cups to get in. He stops at the window inside the hovel and sees Dwayne working on the jetpack while Gargamel is asleep on the couch with Azrael. Unfortunately for him, he comes across Blossom, Bubble, and Baby, who have made their way into following him. Blossom is loud at her greetings and Handy tells her to quiet down. As he also tries to tell them that they don't belong here, they are already walking into the hovel, annoying him.
Handy uses the suction cups to walk into the hovel narrowly tries to avoid waking Gargamel and Azrael up. However, Azrael smells the smell of a Smurf and meows loudly, waking Gargamel up and he captures Handy. Blossom runs up and threatens Gargamel while Azrael stands from behind. She unsuccessfully tries to shoot a bone arrow at him, which makes her assemble the dream team.
Baby bites Azrael's tail, causing him to scream, while Bubble shoves a book on Gargamel's head, making him drop Handy. The four Smurfs are now intact, though they still have Azrael to face. They all then get captured by Gargamel and he locks them in a cell. Just then, Dwayne has declared the jetpack finished. Gargamel goes to see and takes it from him, sending him into a fight with Dwayne.
Handy berates his dream team, which makes Baby cry and Blossom and Bubble angry. Blossom then yells at Handy, saying that they now need to save the village and he needs to put real faith in them. Once she mentions abilities, however, she points out that Handy is the expert, therefore he can make the ideas. He sees the spring, giving him the idea to reach it, but with nothing at the moment. Blossom gets Bubble to teleport out and get the spring. While this happens, Baby gets the idea to severely poop in his diaper, which Blossom turns into a weapon. She changes Baby and throws the dirty diaper into Gargamel's robe, causing him to start screaming and throwing himself around. While Gargamel is pre-occupied, Handy gets the spring and picks the lock, allowing them to escape. Handy congratulates Blossom's good thinking skills.
Handy, Blossom, and Baby escape the cage with Bubble as Handy gives them a new mission: destroy the big jetpack. Handy takes his small jetpack against Dwayne's big one and calls the kid untrained and underage. As Dwayne protests that he is not underage, Handy decides to test his skills by chasing him around the forest. Dwayne follows after him while Gargamel still tries to get the diaper out his robe, getting spun over by Dwayne and crashing down the stairs.
Handy and Dwayne take off in the forest and zoom around. Handy proves that Dwayne is unprepared by saying he hasn't even used the turbo on the jetpack, though the kid notes that Handy hasn't used it either. The two race back near the hovel and Handy grabs Blossom in the process. Handy asks Blossom to mess up his turbo and he sends her into Dwayne's jetpack. She turns on the turbo for him, causing him to accelerate and take off. Blossom loses her grip and is immediately saved by Handy as they give each other a smile. Dwayne, meanwhile, flies around through trees while screaming and eventually zooms back to Gargamel's hovel, crashing with Gargamel into the hovel in the process.
Handy's mission has now completed and Bubble brings Baby down the hovel by teleporting to the ground. While Dwayne and Gargamel are weary and dizzy, Gargamel notices the jetpack is flickering. Handy congratulates his dream team for saving the village as they high five and walk off, while an explosion in the hovel occurs!
