Plot[]
Winter is near and the Smurfs are gathering food. But days after the winter comes, the food storage is destroyed in a fire. To survive, they are forced to leave the village and find a place where they can feed themselves. After long days journeying in the cold wilderness, they find a human castle where its lord is living alone after losing all his fortune. Trying to find remaining food, they stumble on a secret room of jewels. They share their discovery with the lord, who can then buy food for them. The Smurfs are then able to go back to the village.
Publication and other media[]
- "The Hunger Of The Smurfs" is adapted into the episode "Haunted Smurfs", which adds, besides the addition of Smurfette to the story (whereas she was nonexistent in the original story), a subplot about a ghost in the castle. The animated version gives the lord the name of Mr. Poppery.
Notes[]
- This comic chronologically marks the first appearance of Jokey Smurf, Lazy Smurf, Weepy Smurf (possibly), Greedy Smurf (possibly). Both previously appeared in other comics before this.
- The story also introduces Chilly Smurf whom at the time, was the first distinguishable Smurf in the franchise (aside from Papa Smurf)
- The original print of this story didn't feature Brainy Smurf until the release of its revised album version.
- This comic is chronologically set before the events of "The Smurfette", and after the events of "The Fake Smurf" and "The Egg And The Smurfs".
- Noticeably, the story also marks that the art style for the Smurfs from this comic story onward is starting to transition to almost look like the modern art style of the franchise as of today.
