Characters[]

Synopsis[]

Someone has stolen Painter's painting and all the Smurfs are looking for it. While the artist is in despair, the Smurfs confuse the culprit for Gargamel.

Summary[]

Smurfette walks by Painter's house to find him painting his latest masterpiece. He unveils it to her when she asks him to show the painting to her. To Smurfette's surprise, she ends up finding endless mushrooms and addresses the problem to Painter, which makes him break down as he can't find anything else to paint. Just then, he gets the idea to paint Smurfette. Though she is hesitant, she wants to make Painter happy and agrees to this.

Painter brings Smurfette to his studio, with him seeing that the lighting is perfect and begins to paint recklessly. This shocks Smurfette and she ends up falling asleep until Painter blows a horn to wake her up and warns her that the painting process will take six days tops. This saddens Smurfette until she hears Hefty, who is ready to pick her up for their daily run. Smurfette says she can't today, so Hefty rushes in, afraid that she might be ill, but Smurfette simply explains to him that she is posing for Painter. Hefty wants to pose with her and asks this to Painter, who shoos him away, saying that he'll ruin the masterpiece with his smurfingly outrageous biceps. This angers Hefty, who thinks that Painter is trying to steal Smurfette away from him.

Painter continues painting, but Hefty suddenly runs in to ask if Smurfette is finished, but she says she isn't and Hefty leaves. Then, Hefty runs in again until Painter orders him out. Hefty runs in once again and ends up getting hit by Painter's paint kit and gets kicked away. Once more does Hefty show up and then gets kicked out of the village, with him saying he'll come back later.

Drummer reports that Painter has finished his portrait and he'll reveal it in a couple of seconds. The Smurfs watch the painting as Papa Smurf in particular praises it. Hefty then arrives and sees it, but the first glance of it makes him zone out from his love of Smurfette. When Smurfette herself asks Hefty if he likes the painting, Hefty almost lets his love break out and covers it by saying that the portrait is perfect. Painter, however, believes that it's not perfect and tells Smurfette that they will continue tomorrow. This makes Smurfette groan.

At night, a mysterious Smurf breaks into the studio and sees the painting.

Painter later wakes up and sees that his painting has gone missing and screams, waking several Smurfs up as Painter tells Papa Smurf that someone stole his painting. He ends up crying in Papa Smurf's arms and Papa Smurf says they will find it.

Papa Smurf gets multiple Smurfs and asks if any of them have taken Painter's portrait. They all deny it except Dimwitty, who idiotically tells Painter that his carrot knows the thief. The "carrot" concludes that the person that stole his portrait was Gargamel. Hefty acts notably smug and apathetic towards the situation until Papa Smurf silences them and asks what Gargamel would even be doing with a small portrait. Painter continues to believe this because he has stolen the portrait because it's his masterpiece. Papa Smurf says even if he did, it's dangerous to go to Gargamel's until it's an absolute emergency. Painter is distraught that he will never see the portrait again and walks away, crying. Smurfette tells Hefty there was no need to be rude, but Hefty says it's no big deal and walks away, cheerful. Smurfette is suspicious about this.

At night, Hefty runs from his house, but it turns out that Smurfette is on his tail and jumps from house to house to follow Hefty. Hefty runs into the forest and has a "date" with the Smurfette painting. Smurfette catches him and he ends up collapsing. Smurfette berates him for this as Hefty begins to lie, saying he beat Gargamel good. Hefty tells the truth and says that he took the painting because she spends so much time with Painter that he was jealous but does say that he was planning to return it.

In the morning, Smurfette and Hefty make their way to Painter's house, but encounter a note saying that he's gone to Gargamel's. Smurfette says she's going to Papa Smurf and she's taking the portrait with her.

In Gargamel's hovel, the evil wizard cackles as he has caught Painter and got a portrait of himself. Painter begins criticizing Gargamel's looks, which destroys his confidence and begins arguing with Painter and threatens him until he apologizes and says that he can paint another portrait of Gargamel if he gets him out of the cage.

Hefty runs into the hovel and observes Painter painting Gargamel, much to his confusion. Gargamel is excited to have his and Azrael's portraits painted and Gargamel considers giving it to Mummy. Hefty runs off after signaling Painter and runs onto the wall, forcing Painter to turn the evil duo around so they don't notice Hefty. Hefty sees a rope and ties it to a log, but Azrael sees this and tries to warn his master, but the two get hit by the log and crash into Gargamel's chest, causing the chest to lock as Hefty and Painter escape while Gargamel curses them.

Back in the village, multiple Smurfs run to save Painter but find him with Hefty, who Painter congratulates. Just then, he finds his masterpiece safe and sound, with Smurfette saying that Hefty found it because it hadn't gone far. Painter realizes Hefty's potential and wants to paint him. However, Hefty is fearful and runs away with Painter running after him as all of the Smurfs laugh.

Trivia[]

  • Drummer's voice sounds deeper than his voice in "Flying Ace". This is to differentiate his voice from both Papa Smurf and Farmer's.
  • The original French title directly translates to "The Stolen Portrait", which is the English title for this episode. This is one of the few titles to directly translate from the French title to the English title.
  • Hefty is thrown out of the village, which is a rare occurrence for another Smurf to be thrown away besides Brainy.
  • Painter uses a horn to wake Smurfette up. This was his previous method in waking her, Hefty, Grouchy, and Lazy in "Mommy's Masterpiece".
