Synopsis
When one of Jokey's pranks goes wrong, the Smurfs are all turned to pebbles.
Summary
It is a normal day in Smurf Village. The Smurfs chatter around - which gives Jokey the opportunity to throw his boxes all around the village. Smurf after Smurf he goes after, culminating in Handy getting five gag boxes at once! Jokey finds this quite amusing as Handy runs out of his workshop.
Jokey plans to find his next target when a good chunk of Smurfs come up to him and glare at him, and Papa Smurf informs Jokey that's enough pranking, followed by Handy and Hefty telling him that they need to work and he needs to stop using the same prank every day. Jokey scoffs at the idea of old pranks but Handy forces him to start cleaning. He throws back his present to him as well.
Jokey is annoyed at his fellow Smurfs complaints, but suddenly, he sees Papa Smurf in his lab with Brainy as the two put a secret potion in a safe place. Brainy tells Papa Smurf that this is a good idea if Gargamel decides to attack, one little drop and he'll be frozen. The two laugh while mocking him, prompting Jokey to get an idea.
Late at night, Jokey runs near the lab and goes into it. He steals Papa Smurf's potion and races into his house, where Papa Smurf is sleeping, and he puts a drop of the potion on him. He then goes into other Smurfs' houses and does the same thing. As he goes back into his own house, Jokey cannot wait to see the damage he has caused and imagines dozens upon dozens of Smurfs falling like dominoes.
The next day, Jokey goes into Brainy's house, but he only sees a little pebble with his glasses on it. The same goes for the other Smurfs' houses he goes into; there is only one little pebble in their beds. Jokey concludes that the potion turned them all into pebbles, which makes him laugh.
Jokey stacks up the pebble Smurfs on top of one another and talks to them. He then realizes he is sitting on the Papa Smurf pebble. Papa Smurf is informed by Jokey that he has been turned into a pebble, which scares him and he believes that Jokey went through one of his potions, which he confirms. Papa Smurf angrily worries about this, since his potion turns people into stone. Jokey understands and mentions that he could have been more specific in his secret conversation with Brainy. Jokey offers to pamper every Smurf around, but Papa Smurf orders him to do it now. Jokey realizes that he will have to get the ingredients from the forest, but not on his own.
Jokey brings pebble Papa Smurf, along with Hefty, Handy, Grouchy, Baby, and Vanity, to the forest on a wagon. Unfortunately for him… it turns out that all of the Smurfs are just fine, and they stop hiding while laughing. Papa Smurf tells all of the other Smurfs that he hid the real potion in his blueberry juice. Every Smurf laughs, including Brainy, whose glasses are on the pebble and as a result, he can't see. Papa Smurf also explains to the Smurfs that Handy had installed microphones in every pebble. Papa Smurf takes a group of Smurfs to the forest to follow Jokey.
Jokey is in the forest with the pebble Smurfs and gets the first ingredient: blueberries, but he gets distracted by a bird that sits on the Baby pebble. He tries to shoo it away, which results in the bird pecking him and flying away. The Smurfs observe and continue following Jokey.
Later, Jokey brings the Smurfs to a ravine where Papa Smurf tells him that the orange flower he sees is the second ingredient. He goes to get it, but all of a sudden, the wagon begins driving off the cliff. Jokey chases after them. Eventually, the cart hits a giant rock, causing the pebble Smurfs to end up falling out of it. Jokey continues chasing them until he rolls on the rocks and falls off the cliff. He manages to successfully grab all six pebble Smurfs, but not before falling down to the ground, followed by the wagon hitting his face. The Smurfs fear that they will get caught for their prank, but Jokey gets all pebble Smurfs and the ingredients back in one place. He walks off with the wagon.
Jokey arrives at Bigmouth's house, where he finds the third ingredient, a mushroom. Just then, Bigmouth opens the door and sees the pebble Smurfs. He takes them inside to make rock soup. This scares Jokey and the spying Smurfs and they all go into the house as well.
Bigmouth puts the pebble Smurfs on a table and Jokey distracts him. He states to him that he could bring Bigmouth better ingredients. Bigmouth complies and waits. Eventually, Jokey presents him with brown balls of food, describing it as very tasty. Bigmouth likes this taste - but it turns out that this is rabbit poop, something he doesn't know. Jokey thanks the rabbit while the spying Smurfs are surprised.
Jokey goes back into the forest when pebble Papa Smurf tells him to go to the last ingredient: a dragon's nose hair. This actively scares Jokey, who is very reluctant to go. Papa Smurf tells the Smurfs that it's time to set up the final prank. He wants Brainy to lead the Smurfs to the cave, only for this job to go to Handy when Brainy can't see anything without his glasses.
Nearby, Jokey is disappointed in himself and contemplates giving up pranking, but Papa Smurf reassures him that will never change because he's a born prankster. He mentions that it's also important to help others when needed, which motivates Jokey to get into the cave.
Jokey arrives at the cave, where he lets the pebble Smurfs stay behind. He nervously takes steps into the cave and asks the dragon to take a nose hair from it, which makes the dragon yell and shout. It begins to step forward, which makes Jokey cower in fear. Eventually, it is revealed that this dragon is in fact the multiple Smurfs that set up this prank. They explain how they set it up and it turns out that Jokey was the one who was ultimate pranked. He asks where the real dragon is, but Papa Smurf tells him that Hefty drew it away from the cave, but Hefty tells him that it was Handy, who tells them that it was Dimwitty, who tells him that he was taking care of pebble Baby. Papa Smurf then realizes nobody got rid of the dragon…
The actual dragon - Voltaire - comes forward and glares at the Smurfs, who just realized their fate. All the Smurfs end up taking cover in Clumsy's fire truck and race out of the cave, with Voltaire in hot pursuit!
Trivia
- This is the thirteenth episode in which no female characters appear. The first twelve are "Joke's On You", "Leaf It Alone", "Adventures In Smurfsitting", "The Curse Of The Smurfs' Treasure", "Pop Out!", "Forget Me What?", "Order Of Merit", "Back To Nature", "Souffle Shuffle", "The Star Smurf", and "The Wrench Smurf".
- This is the first episode in the season not to include any of the Smurf Girls.
- The episode is similar to 1980s "Jokey's Funny Bone", as in both stories Jokey tries to play a prank on other Smurfs and it then backfires; the difference, however, is that this episode is a set-up from other Smurfs while in the 1980s story the others are completely clueless.
- The pan of the village reuses footage from "The Makeover".
- As Jokey spills a drop on all the Smurfs, one of them is sleepwalking. It is unknown if this Smurf is Scaredy or not, as he had a sleepwalking problem in "A Thief Among Us!".
- Baby is shown as one of the fake pebble Smurfs but does not reappear in person after the beginning. Dimwitty states that he was taking care of Baby (who he believes is the pebble) though it can be assumed that he stayed behind in the village.
- This is one of the few times Clumsy is seen with the fire brigade truck without Dimwitty.
- Voltaire appears at the end of the episode. Oddly, he is not referred to by name, and none of the Smurfs appear to recognize him.
