Plot Summary[]
At night, the evil wizard Gargamel rants about the Smurfs while trying to sleep but finds himself awake trying to stop thinking about the Smurfs. He tries to go back to sleep by counting sheep, but the sheep become Smurfs. The final sheep becomes Jokey, who's imaginary blast with his gag box forces him up again. Gargamel gets up and tries to eat honey with some tea, hoping it will cure him.
Elsewhere in the Smurf Village, Papa Smurf finishes reading part of a bedtime story so the Smurflings can go to sleep. Though he tucks Nat, Sassette, and Slouchy in, he can't find Snappy. Nat and Sassette get out to go to see where he is with Papa Smurf. They then find him searching for something in his endless supply of toys. Snappy tells Papa Smurf that he lost his teddy bear. The village leader recommends that they could find his teddy bear, Huggy, in the morning. Snappy, however, can't sleep without Huggy.
With no luck, Papa Smurf says for Snappy to get in bed, but Snappy thinks of all of the other places for the bear to have gone. Papa Smurf gives up and tells him that it's late and he has to go to bed without Huggy. Papa Smurf decides to compromise and allows Snappy to sleep in Papa Smurf's house for the night. However, without either Smurf's knowledge, Puppy has taken the teddy bear and runs off.
Snappy is out into Papa Smurf's bed as he says every Smurfling will have to grow out of a teddy bear once in a while. He says this as Huggy used to be his teddy bear. Papa Smurf says he was afraid of the dark until he discovered that the teddy bear had "magical powers" and if Snappy believes them, Huggy will protect him from all the disturbing sounds. Before Papa Smurf closes the door, Snappy asks him to leave the door open. Papa Smurf does not follow this request, but simply sighs and closes the door.
Snappy finds himself sleeping with an open window, afraid. When he hears wind, he assumes there's an ogre nearby until he cries for Papa Smurf. Papa Smurf says there's no ogre and tells him to get some sleep. As Papa Smurf himself is about to sleep, Snappy screams for him again, worrying that there's a monster nearby, but Papa Smurf tells him it's just his clothes. If Snappy had hung them up earlier, they wouldn't scare him. Snappy is too afraid to even go to the closet, worrying that there's still an ogre nearby. Papa Smurf forces Snappy back into bed, worrying that it will be a very long night. It is impossible for Snappy to sleep, as he does not have Huggy.
Gargamel suffers a similar problem, as he can't sleep at all. He decides to cast a spell on himself to make him sleep. He searches for it in a book of spells. Azrael, who can sleep, tries to warn his master, but Gargamel throws him off the sleeping page of spells. He uses his mirror to cast the spell but ends up falling asleep sleepwalking. Azrael sees the problem with this as a bear smells the honey and begins to eat it. Gargamel continues to sleepwalk into the forest.
In the village, wind continues to scare Snappy as he hides under the bed, worrying about Huggy. He runs out of Papa Smurf's house and begins searching for Huggy. However, his search distracts him from seeing the sleepwalking Gargamel, who finds his way into the village! He crashes and wakes up, realizing he's in the village. He believes it's a dream and cackles. He steps on Handy's and Hefty's houses, waking them up. Hefty tries to see what the problem is but sees that it's Gargamel.
Gargamel laughs while Smurfs run off, several homes being destroyed in the process. Handy and Hefty question how Gargamel even got into the village, though Handy gets an idea and it involves Hefty's muscle. The two then push a wheelbarrow, making Gargamel trip on it and he trips on Papa Smurf's house, waking Papa Smurf up and realizing that Gargamel's around the village. Papa Smurf gets an idea to call Puppy, who runs to Papa Smurf and obeys his order to get Gargamel away from the village.
As Gargamel smashes a Smurf house, Puppy bites his leg, but Gargamel sees this "dream" getting better. Puppy runs off and Gargamel chases him, dropping his Smurfs in the process. Papa Smurf watches with Handy and Hefty, who realize that Puppy is leading Gargamel away from the village.
Meanwhile, Snappy finds Huggy near a puddle and he hugs him. Away from the village, Gargamel and Puppy are in the forest, but Gargamel hears Snappy's cheering and takes him. Puppy tries to bite Gargamel's leg, but Gargamel simply shakes Puppy off. Snappy wants Huggy to save him and says that he believes in him. Huggy grows bigger and bigger, which Puppy notices and runs away. Gargamel turns around to see the giant teddy bear and also runs off. Huggy puts Snappy on his shoulder and chases after Gargamel.
Gargamel tries to hide from the ginormous bear from his hovel and tries to go back to bed. When he sleeps in his bed, he discovers that a bear is already in the bed and runs away from the hovel.
Snappy thanks the teddy bear, but Huggy tells him that he believed in Huggy enough and his bravery saved himself. Snappy realizes he's growing up a little and should give him to a Smurf that really needs him.
In the morning, the village is being rebuilt as Baby Smurf is crying as Papa Smurf tries to calm him down. The Smurfs then see Snappy, while they tell him what happened while he was away. Snappy tells them that Huggy came to life and chased Gargamel and can talk. Papa Smurf and Baby Smurf then see that the magic is real.
Later, Snappy gives his teddy bear to a sleeping Baby Smurf, with Papa Smurf seeing that Snappy has really grown up a little. Snappy tells him that every Smurf has to grow up sometime.
