Synopsis[]
Because of a mishap, Papa Smurf disappears and the only way to make him visible again is to get a whisker from Azrael.
Summary[]
Brainy goes around on his smurfway to inspect all the going-ons in the Smurf Village. He admonishes one Smurf for how he is clipping hedges, tells Blue and Yellow Painter Smurf how they should paint a Smurf house, and then berates a Smurf who is busy sweeping around the village well that he missed a spot. This irritates his fellow Smurfs to no end and causes Blue and Yellow Painter Smurf to get into an argument over which color they should paint a house's roof. Brainy then notices Papa Smurf driving a lot of signs into the ground around his laboratory and asks what's going on, and Papa Smurf answers that he doesn't want to be disturbed by even the slightest of sounds, for he is mixing highly dangerous potions, and tells Brainy to make sure that the other Smurfs also keep quiet around his laboratory. Brainy says that he will do that, though he accidentally runs over Papa Smurf's foot with his smurfway.
Brainy goes around the village shouting through a megaphone to not disturb Papa Smurf in his laboratory, but as he is doing that, he finds himself running straight into Clumsy, which causes him to veer his smurfway and narrowly miss Clumsy, though it causes Brainy's smurfway to go out of control. Brainy drives all around the village and ends up flung from his smurfway straight into Papa Smurf, who then knocks over vials of his potions, making him upset at Brainy when they explode around him.
Brainy fearfully enters the laboratory, ready to defend himself for his actions, when he sees that Papa Smurf has disappeared right before his eyes. He cries out that Papa Smurf has disappeared, which one Smurf mistakes as hearing "he smurfed his beard", and another Smurf hears the news differently, and so on. Smurfette enters into the laboratory to try comforting Brainy, who kept saying that Papa Smurf disappeared. Papa Smurf does speak, saying that he was right there all along, but neither Brainy nor Smurfette could see him. Brainy hands Papa Smurf a mirror to look at himself in, and Papa Smurf is surprised to find that he is now invisible.
Meanwhile, the miscommunication of the news continues among the Smurfs, as they end up deciding that they will abandon their chores and will spend the rest of the day playing games. In Papa Smurf's laboratory, Brainy and Smurfette watch as Papa Smurf goes through his book of spells to find the right formula to make himself visible again, which he says is a difficult thing to do because it was a rare chemical reaction that caused him to turn invisible in the first place. One attempt at mixing things together causes Papa Smurf to appear visible in green, though it was only temporary as he reverted back to being invisible. A second attempt which Papa Smurf ingests causes him to fly around the room and straight through the door, landing somewhere in the village after the potion wore off.
In his stumbling around after landing, Papa Smurf notices that most of his little Smurfs have abandoned their chores, leaving brooms, buckets, watering cans, and paint brushes behind. Papa Smurf realizes that his little Smurfs are taking it easy while he is "gone" and so decides to have a little fun messing around with their recreation while nobody can see him, even kicking around a soccer ball to make the Smurfs wonder who or what is disturbing their fun. However, Papa Smurf ends up being kicked by a Smurf who couldn't see him, landing him inside the village well.
Soon, Papa Smurf returns to his laboratory with Brainy and Smurfette still inside, wondering where Papa Smurf has gone to, and then immediately finds the antidote that he was looking for. Papa Smurf says there is one ingredient for it that will be difficult to get, which Brainy says he would be willing to get it no matter what it is. Papa Smurf then says that it is the whisker of a cat, which makes Brainy fearful, realizing that there is only one cat that they know of who lives close by, and that cat is Azrael.
Speaking of whom, he is busy in Gargamel's castle, listening to his master write his own version of The Three Little Pigs in a storybook. While the dastardly duo is thus distracted, Papa Smurf, Brainy, and Smurfette sneak into the laboratory through a rafter window, then Brainy and Smurfette lower Papa Smurf on a rope so he could get Azrael's whisker without being seen. The sudden pluck of the whisker causes Azrael to leap up and land on top of Gargamel's head, who then throws him off and causes him to close the rafter window before he lands.
Papa Smurf mixes the cat whisker with the rest of the potion, which causes a sparkle which Gargamel catches the reflection of, directing his attention toward the rafter where he saw two Smurfs. Brainy and Smurfette see that Papa Smurf hasn't turned visible yet, but Papa Smurf says that the effect is gradual. The three turns to escape, only to find that the rafter window is now closed. They turn to go the other way, but as they slide down a rope, Gargamel captures both Brainy and Smurfette and puts them inside a cage, locking it. While Gargamel is distracted, Papa Smurf takes advantage of his invisibility by hiding out in the evil wizard's kettle until he pops out and knocks Gargamel to the floor, and then he inhabits an empty skull and makes the wizard think that he's being haunted by a ghost. Gargamel tries to protect himself from the "ghost" by throwing a Shock Ball at it, only to miss it entirely as he couldn't see who it was that was trashing his laboratory. The "ghost" frightens Gargamel to the point where he is cowering behind a bookcase after he has seen Azrael being stunned by a Freeze Ball and his kettle erupt with a flame.
Brainy and Smurfette are glad to see Papa Smurf helping to rescue them by acting as a ghost, but Papa Smurf realizes that he doesn't have the key to their cage, and Brainy says Gargamel does.
The village leader sneaks over to get the key while Gargamel is still cowering in fear, but as he takes the key out of Gargamel's pocket, his hand turns visible. Gargamel realizes that he's been tricked by a Smurf who turned invisible and now chases after him, even as Papa Smurf's visibility gradually returns. Papa tosses the key to Brainy, who then uses it to unlock the cage so he and Smurfette can escape. Gargamel finally sees Papa Smurf completely visible and catches him, ready to use a kettle on him, when Smurfette releases a rope and causes a cage to fall on top of Gargamel's head, causing him to collapse in a daze while the three Smurfs make their escape.
Back in the village, Papa Smurf interrupts the Smurfs' soccer game by stopping the ball in its tracks and saying that playtime is over, which makes most of his little Smurfs rush off to resume their chores. Brainy grabs a megaphone and yells, "EVERYONE BACK TO WORK!", and Papa Smurf takes the megaphone and responds, "AND THAT GOES FOR YOU TOO, BRAINY!", which knocks Brainy on his butt and causes Papa Smurf and Smurfette to laugh.

Trivia[]
- This is the second episode to be aired in English online at the Nickelodeon website.

- This is the first episode to feature a portrait of Homnibus the Wizard. This portrait is frequently seen in Papa Smurf's lab and house in various episodes of this series.
- One of the scenes of Brainy looking around on his smurfway is repeated twice. This is notable, as the Smurf who carried two buckets and a Smurf watering some plants earlier are seen again with the same two buckets and water can, respectively.
- The idea of having the activity in Papa Smurf's innards be shown when he ingests one of his potions is similar to the effect that was used in the 1992 comedy film Memoirs of an Invisible Man.
- One of the Smurfs that ditches their chores sounds similar to Handy with a lisp, but Handy does not appear in the episode.
- This is also the first episode in which Handy does not appear in.
- The French title is similar to the Universal monster movie, The Invisible Man.
