"Who Nose?" is the first episode of Season 1 of the CGI TV series, The Smurfs.

Synopsis[]
After a talk with Poet and Jokey, Hefty starts thinking that Smurfette doesn't like him because he has a big nose. Papa Smurf refuses to do anything about it, so he and a group of Smurfs use a spell that accidentally turns Hefty into a gigantic nose.
Summary[]
One day in Smurf Village, Hefty is busy exercising with his weights when he sees Smurfette as she is walking by. Hefty is distracted by her beauty, and he falls. They greet one another and Hefty tries to catch up with her, attempting to flirt with her. Smurfette however seems far too distracted to really pay attention to any of his attempts to impress her. Hefty then notices that she's carrying a small pot of roses in her hand, he catches up to her and asks if she needs help carrying it, but Smurfette politely declines. He then offers to plant it for her or build a shelter for it, but Smurfette says she already has someone to do it for her... Farmer. Farmer arrives to pick up Smurfette in his wheelbarrow, ala a princess chariot, claiming that her carriage is awaiting. Flattered, Smurfette replies in kind and climbs aboard. Hefty asks if she's sure she doesn't want his help, but she just obliviously waves him good-bye as Farmer wheels her away. A heartbroken Hefty walks away alone and depressed.
Moments later, a saddened Hefty sits on a bench outside his house when Jokey comes up to him to give him a present. Hefty doesn't want a gift, saying he's not in the mood. Jokey asks what's wrong, but Hefty tells him that he wouldn't understand. Poet shows up and also asks Hefty why he's upset. Hefty tells them that he wants to know why "certain Smurfs" barely notice him. Jokey immediately realizes that he's talking about Smurfette, but Hefty tries to cover it up. Hefty then sadly wonders why Smurfette doesn't like him, considering that he's muscular and has good hygiene. Poet tries to simplify the problem, by suggesting that maybe it's not his looks that are the issue but perhaps something else, only for Jokey to suddenly say that Hefty's nose is too big. Hefty comes up to him and angrily tells him it's not big, so Jokey says he was just joking. Hefty does not think it's funny and walks into his house. He shuts the two external doors of his window, but his nose is caught in between the two wooden doors and he comes to the conclusion that it is big.
He goes to Brainy, who examines him through his pants, nose and tongue. He then concludes through mathematical calculations that Hefty's nose is "37% too big", causing Hefty to panic, but Brainy claims he has a solution.
As Hefty sees Smurfette practicing Smurf-Fu moves with two Smurfs watching her, he struts over to her with a clothespin on his nose, but the clothespin flies off and bounces all over the village, ricocheting right back to Hefty. It hits and lands in his mouth, causing him to fall back and spit it out. The two Smurfs and Smurfette laugh. Brainy shrugs, while an angry and embarrassed Hefty throws the clothespin at his face.
Vanity comes up to him and tells him he won't woo Smurfette like this, so he spins Hefty over to a seat. Handy shows up and builds a birdhouse on his nose. Jokey escorts a confused Smurfette in a chair to a table, where Hefty is also pushed towards the table on a chair. Handy turns Hefty to face Smurfette as he finishes the final touches on the birdhouse. They're left alone on their "date". As they awkwardly stare at each other. Hefty chuckles nervously as the birdhouse's fake bird pops out and hits Smurfette's nose and then bounces back to Hefty, causing him to topple over. Smurfette sighs and walks away. Jokey then advises Hefty to ask Papa Smurf for a nose job.
Later, after he asks, Papa Smurf wonders why. Jokey tells him it's because Smurfette thinks Hefty's nose is too big. Hefty then adds that it's 37% too big. He asks him for a potion, but Papa Smurf says he has no potion for that and that his nose is fine. After he scolds Hefty, he goes back into his house. Hefty is not giving up, however, and leads a group of Smurfs to Gargamel's hovel.
In Gargamel's hovel, Hefty is trying to find a potion for shrinking his nose. Poet asks where Gargamel is supposed to be and Hefty tells him that he's at an "all you can eat buffet" at the tavern and that Gargamel wouldn't miss it for the world. As the others keep looking, Dimwitty tells Brainy that he believes he's found it in the book, but Brainy doesn't believe him and tells Dimwitty to leave him alone. Dimwitty shrugs, then chews on the page. Poet then sees Gargamel and Azrael, warning the others that they should leave immediately, but Hefty is not giving up. As the duo return to their hovel, Poet is scared as he sees Azrael has noticed him. Azrael attempts to tell Gargamel, but he doesn't believe him. Hefty keeps searching for the spell book, but he jumps onto a shelf and loses his footing and falls to where Dimwitty is at. Hefty is mad that Dimwitty didn't tell them that he had found the magic book. As Hefty flips through pages, he notices that Dimwitty is chewing on a page that he had pulled out. It's the magic page for the nose shrinking spell, and they take it and leave. Azrael tries to chase after them once Gargamel opens the door, but the Smurfs rush out before Azrael can grab any of them. He meows, pointing out the hole where the Smurfs escaped, but Gargamel still doesn't believe they were ever there to begin with.
In Hefty's house, the five Smurfs prepare to put the green glob on Hefty's nose. When he puts it on, nothing happens, causing Hefty to grow angry and disappointed. Brainy suggests he be patient and wait until morning after 12 hours have passed to see what happens. Hefty hesitantly agrees.
The next day, the pot with the green goop is empty, implying that Hefty may have grown impatient and used the rest of the green goop on his nose, despite the fact that Brainy had told him that he was only supposed to use a small amount.
Brainy, Jokey, Poet, and Dimwitty notice that Hefty is gone. They hear large footsteps, and when they turn around, they see a gigantic nose with a heart tattoo. As three of the Smurfs scream, Dimwitty walks up to it and sees that it's "a very big nose". The Hefty nose proceeds to suck Dimwitty up into its nostrils.
The gigantic nose starts to bounce around the village, while Brainy, Jokey, and Poet run after it. It passes by Handy, who proceeds to work as usual. The three running Smurfs notice that it's heading towards Smurfette's house. Realizing that she's now in danger, they rush to her. Papa Smurf walks by and notices the gigantic nose; the others grab Papa Smurf and tell him about the Hefty nose. The four Smurfs tell Smurfette (who is sunbathing) that there is a giant nose coming for her, but she doesn't believe this until she sees the big nose. She screams and asks what that is and Papa Smurf replies that it's Hefty. Jokey tries to gift the Hefty nose a joke gift, but the Hefty nose blows him out of the way into another part of the village. The nose begins to suck up everything again. Smurfette attempts to hang on, but she is about to be sucked in too. Just then, Handy flies by with his jetpack and saves Smurfette. Brainy and Poet cheer. However, Handy hits a chimney and drops Smurfette. She is subsequently sucked into the nose. Papa Smurf tells Brainy, Jokey, and Poet to keep running and then tells Handy to hold the nose back while he thinks of a plan.
Handy's rockets lose steam, but he keeps on going. He locates the Hefty nose in the Smurf Forest. He lands on the nose, but it starts moving uncontrollably like a mechanical bull. Handy falls onto a tree and is then squished by the nose.
The nose continues to bounce in the forest, but Poet and Jokey stop him using a branch to hit him, along with three Smurfs using a bellows and pepper. They bounce on the bellows to blow pepper on the nose, and he sniffs it in. He sneezes, causing multiple things, including Dimwitty and Smurfette, getting out but they are covered in boogers. Papa Smurf says that pepper works every time. The last thing that the Smurfs do is capture the Hefty nose in a cage. Smurfette rushes over to Hefty and comforts him, wondering what came over him as she always thought that he had a pretty nose. She kisses him through the bars, causing the Hefty nose to then shrink a little bit.
Could be a few more days, who "nose?"
Sometime later in the village, Smurfette visits Hefty, bringing him a bouquet of flowers and asks him how he's doing and if he's back to normal yet. Hefty says that it might still be a few more days as his body is back to normal, but his nose is still pretty big.
Trivia[]
- The plot is similar to that of the 1980s cartoon show episode "The Big Nose Dilemma", swapping out Vanity's character for Hefty.
- This episode suffered a delay alongside "Clumsy Not Clumsy"; despite being dubbed in English in 2021, both episodes did not air in the United States until almost a year later.
- The animation in this episode is noticeably more polished than any other episode. The characters also move more fluently.
- Hefty's gym is dark green in this episode. "Smurfy Secrets" onward feature the gym as blue.
- This episode has the greatest number of viewers, at 0.47.[1]
- The final scene at the end of the episode showing Hefty's gigantic nose has progressively shrunken possibly refers to a 3-panel gag strip seen in 120 Blagues de Schtroumpfs which shows Papa Smurf having the same gigantic nose size as Hefty's.
- A clip of this episode was seen in its unfinished animation process in a video that was promoting the series.[2]
